RE: I Finished My First Album
Here's hoping your next thread is called "My first album has just gone triple platinum, and now I'm RICH!"

I'll listen to it when I've more time, have listened to a few of your songs previously and I like them.

Still haven't listened (my apologies, blame my limited data plan) but IN is right. In mixing stuff, I think it's almost always a good idea to leave each track plenty of headroom -- and that goes for mixdowns on analog equipment as well.

RE: I Finished My First Album
I look forward to your thoughts when you've finished hearing it Smile

My brother loved it even before I remastered it lol. He said he assumed the distortion was due to the poor audio quality that I uploaded at it is.

And it is partly. But it mostly needed remastering. Any distortion left over at this point is definitely due to it being uploaded at only 64k. So half standard MP3 quality.

And besides that it's intentional effects like resonance and overdrive on some of the synths, bass synths and percussion.

RE: I Finished My First Album
I edited it and it sounds a lot better already... and you know what? I feel like I'm really getting the hang of this whole mastering lark. I think I'll remaster the whole album again and tune it more proficently because I feel like I'm just getting better at noticing bad frequencies and taking them out and boosing the parts that sound nice but to quiet (but not boosing them too much)... the more I use it.

Hell, the my next album you may even catch me using a compression! Tongue I'm not particularly arsed to use a compressor though... because my favorite band of all time didn't use any compression for their first 3 albums.... one of which got to #4 in the UK album charts despite being fully instrumental and spent 4 weeks there Tongue

EDIT; It might not all need remastering... just if I spot any frequencies to alter in any of the tracks while listening like I just did in Decisive Spark SY.

I know, I know "No one cares Hammy. Stop enthusing so much about your own fucking music. It's good for self-trained repetitive techno music made with a £20 program and a laptop.... but it's nothing to get excited about STFU."

I know you guys don't think that but my paranoid mind gets like that sometimes when I see myself getting all overexcited about my own music like this Tongue

RE: I Finished My First Album
You know what? I could mess around with this album forever perfecting it but fuck it I'll just keep it as it is, it's good enough, and I'll make more music and I'll make another album.

To quote Paul Hartnoll, my musical idol:

"Work quickly. And the same applies for doing albums or any project. Just work quickly. You can fix it later if you need to., Work quickly, get it in there and and you know what? Try not to fiddle. If you've got lots of things that you want to do to change it then maybe what you are trying to do is do another project. Don't keep imposing all your fresh ideas on the old work. Do it, finish it, get it done good enough - do it and then: do something else. Don't keep fiddling. I see people get lost regurgitating an album that sounds good! They might play me an album and I say "That's great! Get it out. Five years later they've regurgitated that same album so much that it's not even the same album anymore and you wonder what went on and what process went on in their heads."

time to get my ass making more music! Big Grin
