A lot of people use tripods. I myself use a bipod and a rear bag. Though I'm going to make a new stock and get a front bag. I can cover a group of five shots at 50 feet with a dime and leave change. That's shooting in the bench rest position. I expect to improve with the newer equipment. I haven't shot my gun in nearly 2 years because of the exorbitant cost of ammunition.

When I was 11, I could shoot a .22 within a dime at 20 yards in prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions (standing didn't always do that well).  Closed sights, no bag.  You use your own body to rest the elbows, and learn to time the squeeze for when any swaying goes right across the center.  There were some days when I had no shakes.  I could just hold right on the target and squeeze.  That was very rare.

I grew up at a range.  My dad was the range officer.  I stopped around age 11 and have only shot a couple of times since.

That is a barrel block. 

It prevents you from being able to chamber a round and shows those around you that you are handling a safe weapon.

I do ALL my hunting off a tripod. (A Bogan heavy camera tripod with a adjustable swivel rest).

If you want to wound animals and spend more time looking for bloodtrails than hunting - be a REAL man and do all your shooting offhand.

I prefer "DRT".

I'm limited in my firearms experience (I've only shot 9mm) but it looks so silly to me. A rifle I can see being on a tripod, but a handgun? And he's clearly at a range, not hunting, so I feel like we're correct in dunking on him.

Yup. Your limited experience is showing.


In many states it is legal to.hunt with a handgun AND a silencer. ( it is here).

You practice as you will hunt.

He could also be.doing a new install on either the optics or the can. In both cases you would want to check for grouping and point of aim.

The most logical, scientific and economical way to do so - is off a rest or tripod.

Never dog on a shooter that correctly realizes a fixed mount is essential to victory. They may be wrong about alot of things...but they've got that shit absolutely correct. I go out with my shooter buddies all the time, and they never fail to ask me...even though I don't shoot...to calculate the windage. I do that math and then laugh at that math on account of how I have lots of dogs. I don't need to know how to fire ridge to ridge..(i do know it, but i don't need to) because I just let the hounds loose. Bark bark bark....murder....

Huh. I wasn't paying attention.

I almost missed it too... It should be - as most are - flourescent orange.

The only reason I caught it was I noticed the slide back slightly......
