21% of US GDP takes this form, despite the amount of actual capital changing hands in these transactions being less than .2% of GDP.

It would be nice if we, the middle class, had access to those kinds of returns. Pretty handy for inflating my worth on a loan application too, I bet. I've noticed that you have a habit of launching into tirades about the soviet model in these discussions, but I doubt that anyone is interested in trading one set of oligarchs for another. Most of us just want our financial tools..that's what they are, tools, to work for us.... like tools are supposed to. It's not working now, but unless it simply can't be made to work, then we should fix it. Bitching about commies, instead, is tantamount to an admission that it cannot be fixed.

Personally, I think the tool can be fixed..but I doubt that it will be. There's just too much money in leaving it busted. That's why the president and his party passed those historic tax breaks for the super rich.....aaaaaaaand...nothing else. That, and crime, is all that this administration has done. That was always the trade the GOP was willing to live with. That his mere existence furthered their goal of destroying the federal government by any means available was just icing on the cake.

Yeah and I'm the Queen of Sheba.

You're not worth my time, liar.

You're the liar, if anybody is, because I never defended him. Give me one quote where I supported ANYTHING he does or says. You can't find such a quote because it doesn't exist. America would be better off without Trump and everybody whose life is affected by Trump is better off without him. I just pointed out that he doesn't affect my life because he doesn't. I'm too much of an egoist to care about anybody or anything that doesn't affect my life. "I don't care about X because X doesn't affect me" doesn't mean "I support X".

If you don't know the difference between "Trump doesn't affect my life" and "Trump's great" then you're kind of dumb, to be honest.

Hopefully, pointing out your dumbness won't get me banned.

Quote:More than 500 legal scholars have signed on to an open letter asserting that Trump committed "impeachable conduct" and that lawmakers would be acting well within their rights if they ultimately voted to remove him from office.

The signers are law professors and other academics from universities across the country, including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Michigan and many others. The open letter was published online Friday by the nonprofit advocacy group Protect Democracy.

“There is overwhelming evidence that President Trump betrayed his oath of office by seeking to use presidential power to pressure a foreign government to help him distort an American election, for his personal and political benefit, at the direct expense of national security interests as determined by Congress,” the group of professors wrote. “His conduct is precisely the type of threat to our democracy that the Founders feared when they included the remedy of impeachment in the Constitution.”

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

It shocks me how many people I know who still support this fool.

I always wondered how seemingly intelligent people got sucked into cults (speaking of those who join of their own volition), and this presidency has really clarified the why and how. It just takes one charlatan and enough propaganda and they will believe (and keep on believing) anything.

Fucking scary.

No, Boru, as you see in the news, NK is rattling with its nukes again.

Of course this isn't first time that US has negotiated with NK, it happened many times in the past but dumb Trump supporters have no knowledge of anything, and let alone of the past, think this is the first time and that Trump is actually going somewhere with this. The fact is that NK negotiated and even signed all sorts of treaties in the past to give up its nukes, but always broke them, like

Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1985

Joint Declaration of the Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in 1992

Agreed Framework (aid for plutonium) in 1994

Six-Party Talks in 2002 where they agreed to abandon all nuclear program.

Six-Party Talks (Again) in 2007

US Agreement in 2012

But...but...he said last year that North Korea is no longer a nuclear threat.  Are implying that Trump is dishonest or something?
