Somehow, I missed that one. Looking at that speech in isolation, I was willing to give the dumbass the benefit of the doubt for once and chalk it up to just a simple anachronism stew, trying to distill the accomplishments of the preceding 244 years’ worth of military actions tying it back to the Revolutionary War into one passage, especially given that it concluded with a reference to the War of 1812 (naturally, this could have been a hell of a lot clearer if it was the case, maybe with a reference to General Grant or D-Day at the very least), but then I read that his excuse was: “The teleprompter did go out and it was actually hard to look at anyway because there was rain all over it but despite the rain it was just a fantastic evening,” and I figured out this more charitable interpretation was almost certainly not the case.

You're absolutely right. One wonders why we have governments at all, given the futility of organized response in light of human stupidity. A better government, a worse government, we can't credibly expect a difference in outcomes and, really, it's all just the same.

...and to add to that, why even go to school? That's not digging ditches with a shovel or other noble work - what are we even supposed to use words for, huh? We managed just fine for countless millennia without any literacy.
