Why is it these things are considered so bad according to religion? Or at least the Abrahamic ones? I don't see as long as it's not hurting one, then why is it really such a big deal?
Read Nineteen Eighty-Four. Mr Blair put it succinctly.

I think it's because religion is big on families and their stability and whatever they moral police not to do they believe has some negative impact on families.

Chill mate, Christianity doesn't do 'control'..
"Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them, not because you must, but because you are willing...eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you.." (2 Cor 2:17,1 Peter 5:2-3)

Very few Christians in the public eye have ever let what Jesus did or didn't say stop them from offering their judgement. Jesus never said a word about abortion, did he? Still, his followers insist on trying to control the bodies of others.
1- True Christians give money away, not rake it in..
"..we do not peddle the word of God for profit...(2 Cor 2:17)
2- Christians have no beef with abortions if continuing the pregnancy would carry a serious health risk to the mother, or if scans show the baby would be born severely hadicapped physically or mentally.

By that definition, there are no true Christians. Didn't JC say something about giving it all away?
Regarding abortion, or any other preachment Christians have to offer, I'll tell you what my dad would tell me : "Clean up your own back yard."
Not too different from "Let he who is without sin [...]", come to think of it.

Why?
Well, obviously women were being annoying with their casual approach to dealing with their menstrual issue and the religious folks had to step in and clean up their mess.
LE 15:19 A woman who is menstruating is unclean. Anyone who touches her is unclean.
LE 15:20 Anything which a woman who is menstruating sits on or lies on is unclean.
LE 15:21 Anyone who touches the bed of a woman who is menstruating must wash his clothes and bathe, and is unclean until evening.
LE 15:22 Anyone who touches anything which was sat upon by a woman who is menstruating must wash his clothes and bathe, and is unclean until evening.
LE 15:24 If a man lies with a woman who is menstruating and any of her discharge touches him, he is unclean for seven days. Any bed he lies on is also unclean.
LE 15:28 After her flow stops, a woman who was menstruating must count off seven days before she is considered clean again. On the eighth day, she must present two birds to the priest for an atonement for having had a menstrual discharge.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Nobody knows what a 'true' christian is, just as nobody knows what a 'true' atheist is.
One definition of a true christian which I like is "somebody who likes Jesus'..
As for abortion, when my mother became preggers out of wedlock 60 years ago, her and my dad had a shotgun wedding to cover it up. But if they'd have aborted me friends and neighbours would have thought "Oh well, it was for the best", and not minded.
But I might have minded..

OP: It's because they think they know better. And don't ask them why they think they know better, their answer always boils down to "we just do".
