The Sindh High Court in Karachi, Pakistan, has validated the marriage of a 13-year-old Catholic girl to a Muslim man who abducted her.
Arzoo Raja had been taken from outside her home on October 13 and two days later, as the family searched for her, police announced that they had received marriage papers claiming that Arzoo was 18 and that she had converted to Islam to marry her 44-year-old abductor, Ali Azhar.
The family were able to provide the authorities with an official birth certificate proving Arzoo was 13, and they sought legal representation from Aid to the Church in Need to challenge the marriage’s validity.
On October 27, however, Arzoo appeared before the high court and gave evidence confessing that she had recited the Islamic proclamation of faith.
The court then issued an order validating the marriage, declaring that the 13-year-old had freely consented to her conversion and marriage.
The court also criticised the police for “harassing” Arzoo after her reported abduction and said that the authorities must now “provide protection to the newly wedded wife.”
The young girl was then escorted away by the police with the Muslim family, who will again appear in court on November 11.
Arzoo’s mother and father have both lost their jobs following their daughter’s abduction and they have reportedly received threats from the family of Ali Azhar.
The Church in Pakistan has also protested the similar cases of Huma Younus and Maira Shahbaz, two other Catholic teenagers who were abducted by Muslim men and subject to forced conversion and marriage which the courts validated.
Younus, now pregnant with her abductor’s child, was kidnapped aged 15 in October 2019 and, according to a petition by persecution.org, is currently “imprisoned in a single room in her captor’s home”.
Meanwhile, 14-year-old Maira Shahbaz was taken at gunpoint in April of this year but later managed to escape. Aid to the Church in Need have launched a campaign to grant her asylum in the UK because she is currently in “immediate danger” and is “hiding from extremists who accuse her of apostasy”.

Hindu households vandalized, torched for showing support to France
More than 10 Hindu households were vandalized and torched in Comilla after a man reportedly showed support for France defending cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed on Facebook.
The incident took place at the Korbanpur village under Muradnagar upazila of Comilla on Sunday afternoon, creating panic among the community.
The office of the local Union Parishad Chairman Bankumar Shiv and the house of accused, Shankar Debnath, were set on fire. More than 10 Hindu households were attacked, vandalized, and torched. The fire service had to be called to douse the fire.
Meanwhile, pictures and videos of the attack went viral on social media within moments.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to begin a campaign with other nations to curtail blasphemy in Western countries
Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday vowed to run a campaign by activating the Islamic states’ leaders to make the Western world understand that the Muslims get hurt the most due to disrespect of Holy Prophet Muhammad (May He Eat Shit).
“We are 1.25 billion Muslims. Why can’t we do that? I feel sad to say that it is a great failure of the Muslim world leaders. I will run a campaign. I will contact the Muslim world leaders. I am sure, if we collectively make them understand that … disrespect of the Holy Prophet (May He Eat Shit) is the worst for us,” he said.
Addressing the National Rehmatullil Alameen Conference held here in connection with the Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the prime minister said the Jews despite being small in number, had criminalized the denial of Holocaust in some countries because it hurt them.
The prime minister told the audience that Pakistan would lead the campaign as he had already written letters to the Muslim world leaders for a joint action.
The prime minister said unlike the Muslims, the Western society was very casual about the religion. They even produced funny movies about the prophets, which was incomprehensible for the Muslims.

Hindu temple vandalised in Pakistan's Karachi over blasphemy charge
A Hindu temple was vandalised by a mob in Pakistan's Karachi after blasphemy allegations were made against a boy from the Hindu community.
The incident took place on Sunday night in Salaar compound of Karachi's Lyari area. A huge mob emerged in the Hindu community colony and vandalised the Sheetal Temple in the Lee Market area, accusing the minority community of blasphemy.
During the vandalism, idols of Hindu gods were torn down and thrown out of the temple and the temple premises were also defaced.
The incident took place after certain individuals alleged that someone from the Hindu community wrote defamatory things about the Islamic faith on a dog. The allegations remain unproven at the moment.
According to reports, this is the third Hindu temple to be desecrated in Pakistan in a span of 20 days.
