Religion and Science are 1000% Opposite

Religion and Science are 1000% Opposite
A question just popped in my head, that I think is worth sharing.

I was telling somebody today that horoscopes and astrology make no sense. (And that's why astrology (myths) and astronomy (actual science) were separated way back when - "Evidence: Wikipedia Astronomy and Astrology")

This question goes especially to any religious scientist here.

Question is: If science and religion supposedly didn't oppose each other, then why was science separated from religion?

Devised in the 17th century there is simply no common ground between the two.  Saying "Goddidit" does not meet the criteria laid out by the scientific method.

And its been down the shitter for the god buggerers ever since.  Slowly at first and now accelerating!

They usually posit some version of Gould's NOMA. Not that I can see how it really helps.

Science is self correcting, new evidence will change existing ideas.
Religion ignores new evidence and sticks with the accepted teachings.
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Religion is believing in something for which there is no evidence like that Lugh is real.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I don't believe neither step on each others toes.

Religion is based on faith, 3rd hand testimonies, and mythology.
Science is based on facts, repeatability, and statistics.

Religion is designed to give replies to questions which cannot be answered.
Science tries to give answers which can be repeatedly proved and admits its limites.
religion has no limit to its pretentions.

Religion makes scientific claims.

Prayer can heal disease. Gay people cause earthquakes and hurricanes. Virgins can become pregnant. The dead can live again. Horses can fly. People can levitate.

They make claims and then fall back on faith without evidence.

If religion and science are 1000% opposite, does that negate the very real scientific advancements made by religionists?

Boru

Were they using prayer or the scientific method to make their findings?
