Religion and Science are 1000% Opposite

What about people like the patriarchs and alike: Adam, Eve, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Job, Jonah, Joseph, Joshua, Moses, Noah, Sampson, Ruth and Boaz, Daniel and a sizable portion of the Old Testament's other most prominent major characters never existed - at least according to mainstream scholars.

Things like exodus never happened. There were never found any archaeological leftovers of people living in the desert for 40 years. Or Moses' place in Egypt history is never pointed out in the Bible. Needles to say there is no record of him in Egypt.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Oooh! Another one. Minimal viable population

Quote:Minimum viable population (MVP) is a lower bound on the population of a species, such that it can survive in the wild. This term is used in the fields of biology, ecology, and conservation biology. More specifically, MVP is the smallest possible size at which a biological population can exist without facing extinction from natural disasters or demographic, environmental, or genetic stochasticity.[1]

The upshot of this is that all the pairs of animals saved on the ark would then die out due to lack of genetic diversity. Adam and Eve too. If they had existed then their off-spring would have only been able to reproduce via incestuous relationships.

If a person is angling for the deluge, it's difficult to imagine why they wouldn't also insist that bats are birds. On the one hand, I understand, it's an absurdity, but it's no more or less absurd than the other.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The problem with the information in your links (the second link seems to be referecing the first), is that it's based on assumptions of the state of the world pre-flood.

From your link:
Quote:The amount of water presently in the oceans is about
1.37 billion cubic kilometers (Duxbury, 1971, p. 50). To
cover "all the high mountains
everywhere under the
heavens" would require an additional 4.4 billion cubic kil-
ometers, about three times the amount currently in the
oceans. (See Calculation 1)
Trying to accommodate this much additional water as
water vapor in the atmosphere is an impossible task.

How do you reconcile the above quote with this

http://www.nytimes.com/1987/03/12/us/wha...m-sea.html

Quote:Scientists have found fossils of whales and other marine animals in mountain sediments in the Andes, indicating that the South American mountain chain rose very rapidly from the sea.

Quote:When these animals died from 15 million to 20 million years ago, their carcasses settled to the ocean floor and were embedded in submarine sediments.

And this
The Andes have been a mountain chain for much longer than previously thought, new research from the University of Bristol, UK suggests.
Quote:With collaborators at Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre and partially funded by BHP Billiton, Dr Evenstar analysed large boulders from 2km high in the western margin of the Andes. She has shown that the Andes were already near their present elevation 14 million years ago.

When people speak of the animal pairs that went into the ark they ALWAYS assume that it was a pair of the exact same animal and not a pair of the same species.

The Bible uses the word "kind" and "sort" which have the same meaning as "species".

And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. - Genesis 6:19-20

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/species
Quote:species
1. a class of individuals having some common characteristics or qualities; distinct sort or kind.

What defines a species is the ability to produce fertile offspring. So if two different animals are able to produce fertile offspring then by definition they belong to the same species.

So in what way does minimum viable population disprove this?

Look at the time table.

Basically the article I linked places the formation of the Andes mountains 10 to 15 million years BEFORE the fossils.

IMO, anyone who believes that the Biblical flood actually happened is a lunatic. It's painfully obvious that it's a tall tale based on stories of smaller regional floods.

Ah right now you're moving the goal posts. You asked:

You didn't ask us to name one thing in the Bible given careful and selective interpretation to mean something that could possibly be answered.

But no matter, by saying this you then exacerbate another existing problem. A wooden ark could not have been big enough to two of each species, yet alone many specimens of the same species sorted into similar "kinds".

Because yet again science has falsified the Bible, this time by demonstrating that wooden ships can only be built so large before they sink.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming_(schooner)

Quote:Because of its extreme length and wood construction, Wyoming tended to flex in heavy seas, which would cause the long planks to twist and buckle, thereby allowing sea water to intrude into the hold (see hogging and sagging). Wyoming had to use pumps to keep its hold relatively free of water. In March 1924, it foundered in heavy seas and sank with the loss of all hands.

Strange how the ark conveniently dropped all the animals off back to the same parts of the world from where they came from. Or did they all manage to walk back after the floods receded without leaving behind any fossils?

Who ALWAYS assumes that it was a pair of the exact same animal (whatever the hell that means) and not a pair of the same species? Seriously, who?

As for the Bible using "kind" or "sort" as having the same meaning as "species" . . . fine. The problem is that we have seen numerous examples of creationists who play fast and loose with what those words mean. Sometimes species. Sometimes genus. Sometimes even more general taxonomic categories. The only common thread seems to be whatever this or that creationist needs them to mean to salvage their argument in the moment.

So now that you are committed to the story talking about species and not some more general taxonomical categories of living things, I look forward to seeing your stow plan and stability calculations that show how that's even possible. That's a hell of a lot of biomass to cram into a relatively small vessel.

Good luck with that.
