Sadly for us, it seems Professor was a man of his word. He told us he would depart AF if his predictions didn't pan out.

I actually miss him. He was demented but in a relatively harmless way.
(emphasis is mine)

Actually, only half a man of his word. He claimed he would depart AF. As of April 2017, he's still been here. He just hasn't posted.

Quote:Conspiracy theorists have been predicting that Planet X is going to destroy Earth when it collides with it. The rapture is coming and people have taken to YouTube to reveal that the astrological constellation is taking place on September 23 and it matches the Revelation 12: 1-2, which is the second coming of Christ.

Even granting everything else about this arse gravy:

Planets are pretty big.

You'd think a planet one week from collision would be... well, noticeable, by now?

These pathetic prophecies prove the human race is indeed doomed; but not in the way they meant.

You want a real prophecy? September 23 will come and go like any other day, with nothing out of the ordinary happening whatsoever.

I wonder if they are referring to a literal, naturalistic rapture or a spiritual, supernatural rapture.  If the former does not happen, then declaring the latter can be a convenient way to save face.  But if the latter is what they mean, then why not be upfront about it?

P.S. If they do mean a literal, naturalistic rapture, and it doesn't come to pass, then perhaps they'll use the excuse that they got their dates wrong?

That ones my favorite dodge in the prophecy business.  If you "get the dates wrong" you've failed the only metric for prophecy.  Accurately foretelling the future. It's pretty much the only thing you can't..as a "prophet", get wrong.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Kernel. They don't differentiate between natural and supernatural.

Wouldn't you think they could get some scientists to back this up? Wouldn't it be more profitable to convince way, way more people into following them by having some actual scientific legitimacy to the claim? I guess they're satisfied with diminishing returns. Like jeebus says, there's a sucker born every minute.

Don't the dummies know anything about gravity?  It's possible that an asteroid, even a large one, will hit the Earth.  But remember that planets are different.  Pluto got demoted from being a planet because it's too small even though it orbits the Sun in its own discrete orbit.  So if a planet the size of Mercury came whizzing through the solar system it would disrupt the orbits of all of the celestial bodies even though it is fairly small.  http://www.wwu.edu/skywise/solar/solar1.jpg  Consequently we would have know about it a long time ago and by now the  Earth would be a mess.

No. When you're running a scam, you want to attract the right kind of gullible morons. People who pay attention to science and such - even if initially convinced - would most likely quickly change their minds, when presented with the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. You don't want to waste your time on those. You want to appeal to the uneducated, the superstitious and the generally dim people, because - if you're successful enough - they will pay your bills for the rest of your life, even when everyone else realizes you're a fraud.

That's why scam emails are usually ridden with spelling mistakes and bad grammar - if you know how to spell, you're probably too smart to fall into the fairly unsophisticated trap. And that's also how the p*ssy-grabbing a**-clown became the president of US - he didn't bother with science and facts, he didn't try to convince the educated, or appease the liberals. He only addressed the dim-wits, the simpletons and the c*nts, correctly predicting, that there are enough of those in the country to secure his presidency.
