Do you sometimes find yourself doing something similar to this?

"There's something weird, something phenomenally dreary about Christian singing."

It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

I've actually heard it.  Yes.  Singing out gibberish while rolling in the aisle with others in the congregation shouting "Hallelujah!" and "Puh-raise Jeezus!".

Are you required to keep a straight face?

For my Sam's funeral, I had to pick one hymn because that's how it works. I settled on All Things Bright And Beautiful, because she was. During the singing, I faded out every mention of the word "God" (because Sam knew I do have principles). And instead of the obligatory "amen", I substituted "oh Sam".
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

On a lighter note, there's this:

Or this:

(Sadly the end is missing)

It sounds like authoritarian praise
Seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy -- myself.

Many years ago at a funeral for a distant relative, I realized on the way out of the church the recessional the organ was playing was "Somewhere My Love". The new widow brought everyone to tears who recognized that song as "their" song.

Nice touch.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The thing that really stuck out to me after coming out of it and then being exposed to it again was how many of the songs have lines about being washed in the blood of a human sacrifice. Yuck.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)
