When I read A Theist's OP i considered it to be just a current event posting without any commentary by him.  He didn't say if he supported it or if he opposed it.  Maybe he had an ulterior motive in posting it but I saw it as just a neutral post about a current event.  

Some cities have removed Confederate statues and others have resisted.  Now it seems that one or two are being replaced.  At some point radicals on both sides may get to the point where they kill people over this issue.  One guy got busted before he could blow one of the idols up.  This is not a kid's game.  It's serious business.  Once the killings start it will be hard to stop.

I saw the stories pop up on my computer in the news headlines as a continuing event regarding Confederate statues and monuments. After looking further into the stories I thought that they would make for an interesting topic for discussion. Did I expect the back and forth shit flinging? Definitely not surprised. It's that way with just about every topic that we all submit for discussion.

This is America where only approved thoughts are allowed to be expressed in all matters great and small.  

IMO controversial topics are more interesting than bland platitudes because they present an opportunity to explore the topic in depth and to really dig into it and understand it.  

You can see the lingering effects of the racist Confederate presence in Ohio when you look at the thug cops that pulled up at the playground and blew the 12 year-old kid away without a second thought.  So knowing that the area is saturated with rebels helps to explain why the local criminal justice system let the cops get away with murdering the kid.

This site http://sundown.tougaloo.edu/sundowntowns...p?state=OH lists the possible sundown towns in Ohio, which has more than any real Southern State, including Texas which has 106.  IMO that history is more relevant to the racial discussion than the handful of monuments glorifying traitors.  The list of sundown towns shows how extensive the corrosive racism was and still is in Ohio.

So sure, the statues of the traitors is a problem but it pales in comparison to the overt racism displayed in non-Southern States.

Eight years of interacting with probably hundreds of different people of every stripe, and the conversation always ends the same?  Did you ever stop and think that maybe the problem is you?  You're the common denominator, after all.

I've tried talking to you like a human being about political issues several times here, and you've never participated; only slung shit at me.  So, I suppose I was chomping at the bit to give a little of what I'm used to getting.  *shrugs*

Everyone here knows what 45 is doing. However - he is not on these forums so your anger is seriously misplaced. Honestly, is your anger actually solving any issues or is it just making you feel better to hate someone?

Yet your responses are all about 45 and telling him to "shut the fuck up". And again - you totally missed the point. I sort of feel like you're putting your fingers in your ears, sticking your tongue out and totally ignoring everything I've said. 45 isn't in this thread. Period. This isn't about him. It's about the fact that someone, who is a member of these forums, posted an article and you (and a few others) happened to shoot back with nasty remarks that weren't even related to the article.  

I don't recall the OP giving any sort of commentary in the OP. I saw it as just posting an article because, well, other people are posting articles related to that whole topic of interest, so why wouldn't he be allowed to do it? Ohhhh it's because he's religious and a 45 supporter. That makes it totally okay to bully him for anything  that he posts, politically related or not. Period. Got it.

I will gladly stand up for anyone who is being bullied. Whether or not they are a supporter of 45 has zero to do with that. There is a way to communicate with one another that doesn't involve the level of hatred that I have seen displayed here. This thread has not one iota to do with 45 and I find it rather absurd that you keep trying to bring him into a thread where he's not even relevant. How the heck are you managing to continually miss that point? Oh that's right - you are so angry about a lot of things lately. You know, that's really starting to become quite concerning. Please get help.

No matter what you think of AT, I strongly think your hatred is misplaced here. I'm not overly fond of the guy myself, but in this instance, you are in the wrong with your anger. You say you hate bullies, but you're acting like the bully in this thread. Let that marinate.

The problem is not me. The problem is 45, so if others want civility then it is up to them to tell him to shut the fuck up.

You are part of the problem. Your continued hatred for another member of these forums is misplaced, at least where this thread is concerned. It's like watching the pot calling the kettle black. You can't continually call someone out for being a bully (or for supporting a bully) when you're being a bully yourself. And yes - this goes to others at fault in this thread as well.

I can't force you to be the bigger person in any scenario, but I can at least try to get you to see reason a little. The rest is up to you. 

And FWIW - doing the right thing isn't supposed to be an unpopular stance. But if calling out the absurdity of the double standards I see oozing out of this thread, makes me unlikable with some people - I'm totally okay with that. At some point, the bullshit's gotta stop and people need to grow the fuck up. Person B can't stand there and say person A is being a bully, when person B is doing the exact same thing they are complaining about person A doing. 

All the time we say that Xtians don't act in the loving manner that their god would want. How is an atheist attacking a christian for sharing an article, a better example? Furthermore, anyone can see where AT was having a decent conversation with IL and you kept bullying him. He's done his best to ignore you, but I can't say I'd blame him if he finally started flinging the shit back that's being thrown at him. 

Tell me honestly - if someone who clearly doesn't support trump, had posted that article, you wouldn't have bullied them for it, would you?
