There was a Confederate statue in an old civil war era cemetery for Confederate POWs on the westside of Columbus that was vandalized some weeks back. So I would imagine there could possibly be a few of them around. And as another poster pointed out some Southerners migrated North to look for work after the Civil War. And there's a lot of people here in the Central part of Ohio whose family roots are from the border states of Kentucky and West Virginia. My wife's side of the family, the Hatfields, fought for the South. My family's ancestry is from Kentucky. One of my great grandfathers served in the Union Army under General Sherman. I would imagine that the central and southern areas of Ohio, especially, has some Southern roots. I have family throughout the South in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, as well as in Kentucky. To many Southerners Confederate monuments are cultural icons to their roots and ancestry.

When the Cavs won the championship, that was just awesome. I've been following them since the rebuilding days. That was one of the cool things about being from Ohio.

Too bad for the Bengals and the Browns. Neither of those two teams have won a game yet. The Bungles and the Clowns. I haven't been watching much pro ball lately though.

Football isn't really my sport but I'd rather watch it than baseball.
With how bad the Browns have been, basically since I was a teenager and the Art Modell days, it says something about how die hard the fans are that they can make a go of it.

Basketball is just so fast. At any moment in a game there could be anywhere from 2-4 things going on that are worth paying attention to. The score could go from 82-74 to 86-89 in just a few minutes.

Apparently, you're not southern enough to understand his statue enthusiasm, or the statue enthusiaism of your fellow southerners, because texas...lol.  I'm giggling trying to imagine what creative euphemisms he would like to apply to a person from the swamps of n. central florida.....if a fuckin texan doesn't count.

Try not to laugh too hard, but on another forum, in another discussion about the Civil War, a couple of real thinkers argued that Florida wasn't part of the South. No, really.

When I read A Theist's OP i considered it to be just a current event posting without any commentary by him. He didn't say if he supported it or if he opposed it. Maybe he had an ulterior motive in posting it but I saw it as just a neutral post about a current event.

Some cities have removed Confederate statues and others have resisted. Now it seems that one or two are being replaced. At some point radicals on both sides may get to the point where they kill people over this issue. One guy got busted before he could blow one of the idols up. This is not a kid's game. It's serious business. Once the killings start it will be hard to stop.

This is not complicated. We are not living in a time where we can afford the luxury of ignoring a political scapegoating bully like Trump. We know from the past that when politicians go beyond mere disagreement and use vilification where that tactic can lead. 

Silence is what allows others to determine your behavior. Speaking out against bullies is what allows you to determine your own behavior. 

Using a position if top power to make demands of blind loyalty and using scapegoating as a political tactic is dangerous rhetoric. 

If someone supports him, sorry, there is no polite way to put it, they are complicit. 

No president, in my lifetime, not even Bush Jr, Bush Sr, Reagan or Ford ever ran their campaigns like 45 has. This is not politics as normal.
