In fact there are still a fair amount of southerns coming to my one horse town and vice-versa. We have some people trying to act southern even though they seem to have no roots there. My town (technically a city) isn't even in the southern half of Ohio.
Well you know... people say anything south of the Mason-Dixon line is a southern state. I grew up in Maryland. There are no southern accented people indigenous to there. No southern fried foods indigenous to the area. People don't have buggies in Maryland. They have shopping carts. And they have grocery bags instead of sacks. In fact, Maryland is drenched in Northern culture. Can't really say I believe that it's actually a southern state.
Maybe it was at one point, but somewhere along the way, the southern "roots" moved farther south.

Well, apparently a lot of people come here for our D-day reenactment, as you can't get from one end of the town to another when they do that. The D-Day reenactment would be nice to see. I did some roof work up around your area some years back. The accent seems to change a bit from the Southern and Central part of the State to the Northern part. Sounds close to a Michigan like accent in Northern Ohio. But I really enjoyed it up that way.
Yeah I actually do sound a little bit like someone from Michigan sometimes.

Definitely.
When the Cavs won the championship, that was just awesome. I've been following them since the rebuilding days. That was one of the cool things about being from Ohio.

Boru There was a Confederate statue in an old civil war era cemetery for Confederate POWs on the westside of Columbus that was vandalized some weeks back. So I would imagine there could possibly be a few of them around. And as another poster pointed out some Southerners migrated North to look for work after the Civil War. And there's a lot of people here in the Central part of Ohio whose family roots are from the border states of Kentucky and West Virginia. My wife's side of the family, the Hatfields, fought for the South. My family's ancestry is from Kentucky. One of my great grandfathers served in the Union Army under General Sherman. I would imagine that the central and southern areas of Ohio, especially, has some Southern roots. I have family throughout the South in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, as well as in Kentucky. To many Southerners Confederate monuments are cultural icons to their roots and ancestry.
