The Dutch minister of foreign affairs/vice-prime minister, himself very catholic, responding to the report, stated on national TV, while stressing that church and state are separate, that he would step down as bishop if he were one.

It'll be interesting to see how the bishops react, and how much support the foreign affairs/vice-prime minister will be getting for his statement.
Not that I think for a minute the bishops will step down, because they hide behind the Vatican's authority, and I cannot see the Vatican sacking them = lose face in a BIIIG way (5 bishops and an Arch bishop...). The Vatican can't afford to. It would jumpstart similar processes in many countries... Imagine the damage to the RC church!

Undoubtedly there will be an exodus from the Dutch RC church, though.
The Dutch RC church will be lucky if it still has one bishop in a decade's time, instead of the 6 they have now.
And Germany's and Belgium's RC churches will feel the fallout too.
Rome will be hit hard.
