Um no, police are still needed to keep order. But I would agree that neither they or military should be the focus of a sporting event because it is nothing more than an entertainment simulation of war.
We need police and military, I think it would be foolish to think we could ever live without them. But it should not be tied to blind loyalty or forced ritual.
I think we can honor police and military without glorifying a gang mentality, which is what sports does.
Even long before this kneeling thing started, I have always hated assholes willing to fight at the stadium or at a bar over a mere game. Soccer fans in Europe and South America are nuts too.
I look at police and military as a necessity, but I would not want anyone becoming a police officer or joining the military with the goal of revenge. The ethical ones who serve are the ones who would rather not have to be called, just like a doctor while trained to do a surgery would prefer you stay healthy and not need the surgery.
