For girls it was a tougher call.

Yeah, I remember that one too now.  Interesting.  Both of these were passed along wisdom as opposed to pattern noticing things we came up with ourselves.

Of those patterns we picked up on ourselves, I used to think gays in general were less inhibited in their spoken expression and generally more articulate.  Then again when I was really young I didn't know many openly gay individuals, even living in the bay area.  Not sure if I believe that any longer though, having known too many well spoken known straights and less fluid speaking gays later on.  Stereotypes are rarely reliable are they?  Like I always assumed conservatives were simply self congratulatory, silver spoon born individuals with a need to justify their pigs at the trough approach to life.  But then I met Corwin in RL and yourself online.  Stupid stereotypes.

I didn't meet/know any "out" gays until college. For all I know the ones we accused of being gay in HS were just the passive non "manly" types (and I kinda fit the non manly). HS was so tribal. We had little pigeon holes for almost everyone.

Yep, stereotypes and labels may sometimes be appropriate and fit but when I apply them and get it wrong I feel like an ass.

BTW, I think you're OK too but give it up already and cut your hair ya hippie freak.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

I've always felt indifferent toward manly stereotypes. I read somewhere that some guy questioned about his masculinity replied, I'm a man so whatever I do is manly. That's pretty much my approach except I don't really care what's because sex, what's because of my generational influences or class background or education or whatever. Not my problem and there are many more interesting things to think about.

Sounds like hard work to me.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Quote: What do you think? And while we're on the subject of homophobia, do you think homophobia would still exist even religion didn't? What about China, Soviet Russia, and also Estonia which is predominantly irreligious but LGBTQ people have had tough times.
Totally. I think since it's a "minority thing", and also "different", it attracts hate from so many different parts of society.
Just like a black dude in a white community.

Religion just adds an extra morality bit to the act. But naturally; I pretty much think it's a despised act due to the low number of homosexuals compared to the hetro population
Even if you considered evolutionary traits; it defies "normal mating" that produced children and insures the growth in population. So; I guess that's what makes it a big [ X ] for so many; even without religion.

Quote:As I said before, I don't have that much of a good knowledge regarding the theory of Evolution.

That much you have proven.

I was in the tuff guys group at school.
Anyone called me queer and I'd wrestle them to the ground and dry hump them.
So there were always rumours about me, but not many dared mention it to my face. :-)

Oh right...

First visited there in 1973. Short hair was a dead give-away that I was military, the accent that I was American. The whole thing was "Peace, Love, and You Dope!"  Loved the double standard.
