Yeah, that's the point. Atheists here get excited about reports that people are becoming less religious, but that doesn't mean all such people are becoming like them. Many are just exchanging one thing you reject for another thing you reject.

Atheists don;t reject magic or the supernatural....Alpha...they just don;t believe in gods. If those folks believe in astrology, but not gods..they're atheists.
That's how that works.

Also, outside of a few idiots here and there, has anyone on this forum ever supported the idea that if someone becomes an atheist then they necessarily know more about science/skepticism/logic, etc? Atheists can be just as bass-ackwards as anyone else (as demonstrated on this forum every day).

Trading one pile of unprovable illogical woo for another. When I knew that I no longer believed in Christian woo, I did a little searching into Wicca. If you've been brainwashed into theism you sort of WANT deities to exist in some form or another. But . . . it was still just more illogical fantasy.

To the degree that said witches appeal to hidden powers and personify them you can call them religious. Mustn't let the culture foist Crain-centric perspective on us.

Most wiccans are atheists. They aren't religious either. They're ritualists. Their gods are a term of art, and their practices supply structure but not stricture. This is why wicca never succeeds or fails as a cultural phenomena..it doesn't have the prerequisites nailed - it doen;t satisfy true believers or conformists, and it provides no authority for free thinkers. It literally can;t win....but at the same time it;s nowhere near as shitty and narrowminded as traditional belief, and so long as traditional belief remains as petty and close minded as it is things like wicca will swirl around it's periphery.

But that's so hard to figure out. Who knew?

But you aren't showing us people who are ditching religion for irreligion, you're showing us people ditching religion a for religion b. They are not changing their religiosity, their delusion, they are simply substituting one focus for another.
Oh, and if you look at countries where people are free to express their religion or lack thereof, the fastest growing group is the irreligious.

I mean...astrology isn't a religion. It (and other pseudoscience crap) is certainly a delusion, but it's not a religion anymore than being anti-vax or anti-evolution is. And atheists can certainly be astrology believers, the two aren't at all mutually exclusive.
