To me this is not real ST but more like an experiment (if not ST in alt universe) that is also hybrid of BSG and ST and some popular trends. I mean I guess it's an interesting experiment but what bothers me most is that "story arc" of their experiments with that new drive and DNA which is not really interesting, let alone plausable and even worse it's pretty much against the prime directive because they're exploiting this giant tardigrades. I mean there was a similar two part episode in VOY when Voyager encounters federation ship that is trying to exploit beings from, what I remember, another dimension so that they can travel faster and Janway goes nuts because it's against prime directive.
The best episode was when they fought Mudd on Discovery and that was kind of "filler" or stand alone episode. Meaning it wasn't centered around that DNA drive.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The Orville is really growing on me. The FX are really fantastic. Better (?) than even what I'd expect in a feature film. Love the spacescapes, and the interior of Orville continues to grow on me. LOL, the décor is hysterical. Plots are better than expected. Revisiting some ST concepts and running them through the Seth filter isn't necessarily a bad idea, LOL! The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
Ah...the discovery has turned out alright...
Although... I'd expect that they could have found some other person crazy enough to run the spore drive, so they wouldn't have to overload that one guy like they did. But, oh well.... the plot demands it...
and I'm still wondering what sex with Yaphit would be like.
like, how mutually penetrating could/would we be ?? And another ++ for Orville, actually showing Yaphit doing the deed !! Even the oral/GI probing of Bortus was kinda sexy . . . . The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
I love ST Discovery, but I'm not a Trek fan. So I am coming from a place of having no idea if it's breaking any Trek rules or canon.
I like the characters, I like the main protagonist, and I like the acting and story so far. I'm looking forward to watching more.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I watched the first episode when it aired on CBS. Hated it.
Got to agree with Poca. Had I only given the first episode, I wouldn't have watched the rest. Remember that first one is but the first half of a two hour pilot. Only watching that one is literally only giving it half a chance.
