A smart impoverished kid wouldn't. It's not like getting knocked up by God suddenly makes her wealthy or raises her status in society, besides having to watch the death of your own son is never a good proposal for any would-be mother, more so if that  moment of torture is to be enshrined for all eternity. And to top it off, she will then have to sing praises of her son/impregnator for all eternity. Yeh, I don't see a single good thing coming out of this for Mary.

I don't think that they told her about the death, did they? They only told her about the "good" parts. They needed a compliant tool.

Well im not a fan of the one post wonders with 0 reps that pop on and off either. But otherwise i dont see much preaching going on. 80 percent of the time theists are just responding to obnoxious or provocative OP like this thread or explaining various doctrines.

Did you miss all the posts by Rik, Drich, Mk, .... ? I agree this thread OP might seem obnoxious to theists, but if you read this thread, the atheist members here are correcting the OP just like the theists here. We are having a discussion on a topic and giving our individual opinions. This is a good thing, as both sides get to state their sides, whereas most religious forums would ban and shush out any dissenting opinions, just like in real life.

I was just thinking the same thing.  
We are having an intellectual discussion on an interesting topic.  

As to why we discuss the real world implications of what we consider to be a fairy tale?  Well, I spend a LOT of time discussing the meaning of many fairy tales.  Including Star War, Harry Potter, LotR, etc. Since the one in question here is one a lot of people believe in, it only makes sense to discuss it even more (and show it's flaws, because when someone tries to push flawed ideology off as inspired, and as something that should be enshrined as secular law, for instance, you don't just ignore it).

Oh, for instance, not 2 days ago I was talking to my husband about the implications of droid sentience in the Star Wars Universe.  Do the heroes own sentient slaves? Are they sentient or just programmed to appear that way?  
Anyway, this is my free time. I speculate about fairy stories and what they mean in real life.  It's fun!
