Absolutely right.
As the fine print says, there was no appreciable increase in human life expectancy from 10,000 BC until around 1820. So when the jews picked the age of 13 for their bar mitzvah ceremony it was more or less an acknowledgement of middle age.
The chart accounts for infant mortality and childbirth mortality. Those who survived those hurdles merely had to worry about war, famine, plagues or even common infections. Life sucked.

Yeah we are very lucky to have modern medicine. Antibiotics especially were a huge breakthrough. As were immiunization vaccines.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I agree, but religion has never been the origin of discovery, humans have.

Correct, again. Which makes this:

Quote:The World Health Organization warned on Monday that a dozen antibiotic-resistant “superbugs” pose an enormous threat to human health, and urged hospital infection-control experts and pharmaceutical researchers to focus on fighting the most dangerous pathogens first.
The rate at which new strains of drug-resistant bacteria have emerged in recent years, prompted by overuse of antibiotics in humans and livestock, terrifies public health experts. Many consider the new strains just as dangerous as emerging viruses like Zika or Ebola.
“We are fast running out of treatment options,” said Dr. Marie-Paule Kieny, the W.H.O. assistant director general who released the list. “If we leave it to market forces alone, the new antibiotics we most urgently need are not going to be developed in time.”

particularly worrisome.

You mention life expectancy but I also read in this thread that her husband was 90. I guess 90 is young back then, or maybe don't use life expectancy back then as an excuse to make it ok to impregnate 12 year olds. I get that you have to have faith in the book and your religion. But don't try to side step and sweep under the mat the frowned upon issues. Admit when it's just wrong.

We have no record of Joseph's age, and considering the life expectancy back then and the fact that he walked 100 miles to a different city makes me highly doubt he was 90 lol.

It's interesting that the fairy tale went into great detail about the ages of the Old Testament characters but gets very skimpy on details about the New Testament characters. For instance, we know the age of the crazy old coot Abraham when he knocked up his sister and how old she was. Yet there are no similar details about Joe and Mary. Maybe it's because Joe and Mary were not real people but merely metaphors for Israel and Samaria?

We don't know how old he was but we know for a fact he walked a 100 miles???
Did you read your own link?
Quote:Also, I personally cannot imagine an elderly St. Joseph walking 100 miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem to register for the census, or walking from Bethlehem to Egypt to flee the wrath of King Herod.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.
