Eternal afterlife

What's the difference- they are the same being?

The Satanic Temple does not worship Satan, Satan is a symbol of independence and rebellion. They don't believe Satan is an actual being. Largely, neither do LaVeyan Satanists. Luciferians believe in an actual being that they worship, but the don't believe Lucifer is actually evil, they think he's the good guy but the bad guy won and got to write the story. The purpose of calling them different things is just for clarity, so people will know you mean different things by 'Luciferian' and 'Satanist'.

To my knowledge, there is no religion built around worshipping Satan as an evil being, a sort of 'god of evil'.

It's the difference between believing Santa Clause is a real person and believing Santa Clause is the personification of good will, cheer, fellowship, generosity, and charity.

"Santa Clause"... fuck you for crimes against the English language, Tim Allen!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

One of the defining characteristics of human nature is our mortality; a lot of our actions stem from the finite time we have, this is often played upon in stories, where people behave very differently if they got to know they had a short time to live contrasted if they lived for a very long time or forever.

And all this about we'd have different bodies neglects that we are not just our brains, but our bodies too, it's an integral part of who we are as human beings.

Face it, you wouldn't be "you" if you lived the way Heaven is envisioned to be.

Nice quote mining. Care to quote the wolf thing for proper context? Or is intellectual dishonesty just how you roll?

That' a pretty weak list of things to trade your mind, credibility and basic human decency for.  To each his own, I guess. You could just take a vitamin and go to bed a little bit earlier...you realize? The thord seems more than a little bit disingenuous, you know that you're going to die, it's conveniently -after- your death that you expect all the goodies in the first place.

Well said. But it might not bother people so much if they lacked mind/credibility/decency to begin with. I think the real crux of Banned's assertion is that religion offers a way out of despair.

But as Kai Nielsen argues, "the sources of human enjoyment are obviously too numerous to detail. But all of them are achievable in a godless universe." There are countless approaches to happiness and fulfillment. Religion need not be one of them. Security, peace, friendship, and creativity are all aspects of life which make us happy and bring us fulfillment. If we are lacking in one of these aspects, we may experience despair. But rather than resorting to God, one could just as easily make some new friends or focus on a creative project. Both ways work. Only one doesn't cost credibility, decency etc.

That's exactly what I've been saying. That plus the pointless immorality in converting someone that way merely so they can endure heaven or hell, turning them into something other than the them that earned the reward / punishment in the first place. It's like the tatty CGI shit in the Star Wars 'special editions', replacing all the things that earned the films the awards that they received originally. Or da Vinci's genuine paintbrush that's had eleven new handles and sixteen new heads over the centuries.
