Al Franken Resigns

RE: Al Franken Resigns
I wonder how many dick polaroids were mailed to colleagues?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I was disappointed (but not surprised) he didn't emphasize more his complicity in harming his victims. And the 'remembering it differently' and 'some of it didn't happen' I found especially galling.

Looks like it devolved to the Dem women in the senate in showing him the door, and he still doesn't get it.

I won't burn his books I bought (Big Fat Idiot, Lying Liars, Giant of the Senate) but I'm remain grossly disappointed. Giant of the Senate especially. He clearly has some innate talent for the presidential office, but damn he fucked up.

I can't advise any one to read Giant of the Senate at this point as it's a political dead end now, but that entire book was a good read and explained carefully his (honorable) motives for running for Paul Wellstone's senate seat, and the 'pub chicanery played against him in the seemingly endless recount battle he eventually won.

That election episode, and his greatly delayed seating in the senate was a particularly galling cluster fuck, and now Franken no longer has the senate seat (or the imprimatur of respectability) to pursue any remediation.

Also of considerable annoyance, had the Minnesota voters known of his groping that had occurred prior to his campaign, it's clear his <1000 vote victory would not have been possible without the silence of those women in that time frame.

These events (and his extremely non-unique attitude about it once exposed) has been a huge jolt of disillusionment to me.

Shame we lost an ally in our war with Trump, but it was smart on his end to resign. This move sends a clear message to Roy Moore that unwanted sexual advances is not to be tolerated under any circumstances.

Franken did the correct thing by resigning; he lost all credibility with the sex misconduct allegations.
I still can't figure out why voters think celebrities automatically make good Congressional leaders, or governors, or presidents. And many of these celebrities feel they're entitled to be voted in immediately to a high office - why they hell can't they get some experience with a local government before demanding high leadership?

And I don't buy that Franken's resignation is some strategic ploy re: Roy Moore. Moore has denied six ways to Sunday that he's a predator and denies even knowing his victims, even with evidence otherwise. Franken admitted his wrongdoings.
Moore will get voted in and serve out his term with no consequences.

This is a knife fight in which the republicans recognizes no rules and no bounds and eagerly expect to win at any cost to anyone who is not their few megabuck donar and agitator, and the winner to take all, while the democrats think if they can act like the drawing room gentleman, then noblesse oblige, the republicans will follow suit and think of the good of someone else.

How do you know Franken isn't telling the truth? I know it's unpopular in the moment we live in, but people need to avoid joining a mob mentality and examine the evidence.

I'm rapidly understanding the total frustration women develop on this issue.

I have a family member who was groped by a minister many years ago.  During counseling session he suggested rubbing her shoulders, and not knowing any better, she allowed it and that was his 'toe in the door' to do whatever he wanted.

This was small town Iowa, and many years ago, and it was a horrid experience for her.  At some point, fed up with the rumors and snide looks, she stood up during 'concerns and prayers' segment of the service, and addressed the congregation as to precisely what happened.  It wasn't easy, but turned out to be the right thing for her to do.

Her denom shuffles the preachers around pretty often as it is, and that one was gone in a couple months and replaced with (surprise surprise) a woman pastor who was quite a breath of fresh air  for that small town.  She even impressed (but failed to convert) me.  The church had a grey water back up once and I was there ankle deep in it trying to staunch the flow and the minister turned up.  I was mortified and rushed to the door to prevent her from seeing the disaster that was unfolding.  I was on the verge of tears as it was since the flow was all but unstoppable and who wants to see poo in a nice building whether or not its a church anyhow (Scientology excepted, of course)  and I thought if her lower lip even trembled a bit I was going to have a full melt down and I HATE crying around other people.

Boy had I misread her !!

(and it serves me right too !!)

She marched downstairs and sad:

"We'll get sump pumps!!"

"Carry out those folding chairs!  They can  be hosed off they'll be fine"

"Don't worry about that crate of expired Sunday School materials, we already have new on order!"

"I have the number for a restoration/cleaning company, I bet I can get them here as soon as the water drains!"

Well, I didn't feel like crying after that now, did I ?

LOL!!

Showed this old fairy who's butch, didn't she ??
