Religion is man's invention. The bible is not a religious book. But, I guess it depends on what we mean and how we define "religion". If you define religion as anyone whom claims to have a relationship with God then, the bible IS a religious book. However, if I define religion as a self appointed hierarchy imposing itself then no, the bible is NOT a religious book.

But one would think that they, above all others, would understand the full meaning behind the original Greek texts, no?

No! And I run into that question a lot. The KoinE Greek, the autographed language(I don't like to use the word 'original' because we do not have the original manuscripts) of the NT is a unspoken dead language. The Greek Orthodox Catholic Church is steeped in its own traditions and therefore, manipulate Scripture to fit their traditions, including 'transubstantiation', which is ridiculous, and also triple dunk water baptism as if God is a Trinity which the bible never said. Those things are theological not Scriptural according to KoinE Greek grammatical inflection which they do not honor or even really understand. So, their tradition, somehow, supercedes what was actually written. This is true of all religion as all religions manipulate to support their religious hierarchy and stupidity. As evidence of this stupidity, I give you the Christian religious organizations of the world.

I have spent my whole life unraveling this rat nested fishing reel. It was not easy because these people also wrote the Greek to English lexicons I had to read with their completely stupid 'ecclesiastical' meanings and their 'spiritual' meanings of the words. I had to take the half a dozen or so lexicon writers down to my basement, chain them up and torcher them saying, "Tell me the truth!" They all said, "You can't handle the truth!" I continued to torcher them saying, "Try me bitch!"

Yet, getting to the meaning of what an illiterate fisherman, or farmer, could understand in the first century meaning of those words spoken to them only, and not read by them, was as easy as the precision grammatical inflection of the KoinE Greek and not a lexicon writers 150 'sometimes it means'. The 150 'sometimes it means' only supports the 21 century rocket science and the 2nd century catapult trajectory calculations of men with alphabet soup listed after their name so that we can "be assured" of their competence--WRONG!
