I get that it's funny but it also perpetuates a harmful stereotype that undermines the efforts made by younger workers as well as providing an excuse for older generations to ignore their viewpoints.

Yeah, the new generation are getting treated so unfairly.  How DARE we "stereotype" them by describing the things they constantly do, say, and think? I just gave a living, breathing testimonial, and you are trying to go SJW?

If we go by living breathing testimonials then my mere existence cancels yours out. I also like that wanting me and my peers to be respected makes me an SJW. Classic.

RE: Please Tell Me This Isn't True
Seriously, guys. I'm a millennial. My husband is a millennial, as are my siblings, friends, ex-co-workers, sister-in-law, etc. Among them are a self-employed business-owner, a highly-regarded information security professional, a chef, a mail truck driver, a genealogist, a social worker, a PhD student of archaeology, a licensed electrician, a high-end (think city parks, mansions) landscape designer, a bakery owner, a plastering business owner of more than a decade, an engineer and the list goes on.

There is no SJW about it. This is ageism bullshit. Just because you had an employee who was a dipshit does not mean an entire generation is full of dipshits. What you've got is a funny anecdote for a dinner party, not worthwhile research on the behavior of people born over the course of more than a decade, of which there are at least millions.

It's not the video that's offensive. It's a joke.

I just want to point out that if millennials were lazy and never showed up to work, you wouldn't have a forum to bitch about them on. *drops the mic*

Sure, there is truth to it. But like I said, it seems people of our generation are being dismissed politically and socially while being wrongfully attributed the stereotypes in the video as justification. So I feel like I have to say something, regardless of whether some people are like that or not.

"How Millenials Are Killing the Stock Market," "How Millennials are killing the Housing Market," "How Millennials Are Killing Golf Clubs," I'm just sick of it all. I'm desperately waiting for the headline "How Millennials Are Killing the Wall Street Journal," those divisive fucks.

By the way, the answer to those headlines: we have no money because we had to go deep into debt for our college degrees to be competitive in today's economy and we need to spend our little money on silly things like food, rent, gas and electric.

I get that not all millennials are like that. My husband works his ass off and is the best person I know.

But the obsession with social media and the mentality of being "entitled" and "offended" all the time are worthy of being called out for the people they apply to.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

RE: Please Tell Me This Isn't True
The video is a comedy, its not supposed to be a serious depiction of millenials.

Most millenials are hard workers and don't do any of the stuff seen in the video. You don't hear about them because they are busy being normal human beings.

Now I've had enough of the oppression in this thread and I'm totally triggered now, so I'm going to take a break from the forum for a while and have a chai latte with pumpkin spice.

Every generation has that mentality though, its just about different things.

Who do you think gets most offended by gay marriage, and, to be honest, most civil rights issues. Its not millenials.

Yeah, stupid millennials feeling entitled to their share of Social Security, gay marriage and paternity leave. Fucking entitled wastrels.

CL, I don't mean to be offensive, but how do you know how millennials behave in the work place? Haven't you decided that work isn't right for you? That would render your point moot because, A. you don't work with millennials and B. you don't have a work ethic. To be clear, I am 100% okay with people deciding to stay at home. I don't care what people do or don't do for a living in general. I just find, if I have your situation correct, which I may not, that your position could be a little hypocritical or even uninformed. Feel free to correct me.

Lol wait. I can decide work isnt right for me? I've been doing this millennial thing wrong. Getting a college education and job and stuff. But then again there's the whole gender issue. Gotta love 2017.

Well, I don't know about social media (although - Trump), but - since we're broadly generalizing - "entitled" and "offended" - that's Baby Boomers, more than anyone...

The same generation, that grew up in times of post war prosperity, that in their youth wanted "peace" (because they didn't want to get drafted and killed in a war), "free love" (because there was no AIDS, but there were antibiotics and contraceptives) and drugs - gave rise to Wall Street greed-worship, Reaganomics, War on Drugs, Satanic Panic and puritan nostalgia for glossy version of the 50's, some 20 to 30 years later.

And now they expect young people to somehow lead lives their way - a way that is no longer possible, because technology, economy, job and housing markets and pretty much everything else has changed diametrically. And - naturally - they hate the way young people dress, talk, f*ck and the music they listen to, because that's just what older people always have done.

In my opinion Millennials are doing as well, as should be expected, considering the circumstances.
