I'm not saying there isn't a rational explanation for this (it could easily be mind trickery here) but I just wonder, why do all these stories seem to suit Christians and not other faiths? I've even used google translate to look on google in the middle east or google india to see if there are testimonies of Islamic/Hindu people seeing their deities, but I cannot find it. What is the cause for this?

When you really dig in..it's an interesting question...because none of those converts are actually claiming to have met the person of "jesus" any more than "paul" claimed to have done so.  One wonders what a vision of christ is supposed to have to do with whether or not there was a historical jesus. Not just today, but even in the foundation of christian belief as we know it.

That people report mystical experiences in line with their cultural and religious norms is common (despite the poster having been unaware)..and it;s equally uncommon to find a person who has a mystical experience of a cultural or religious figure entirely unknown to them. Those people are the people screaming about the great god Bob Dixum...whom no one has ever heard of. Not only do we realize that those people are nutters (and by we I mean the a/ir and religious), we don't contend or question whether or not theirs was the historical Bob, or even that there ever was one.

Adding to the above (since I guess it's on us to make this thread worth a shit in OPs absence), in the exceedignly rare case that we actually can point to a real flesh and blood figure (or at least some amalgam of real personalities) as the frame upon which the divine flesh was draped....the specifics turn out to be downright hilarious.

Cargo cults are an instructive example..because they arose in recent and well recorded history as a direct consequence of pacific island hopping.  The US navy was building remote supply dumps.  Now, this was the origin of the Tom Cargo movement...nothing too wacky there (lol).  What's more interesting..are the John Frum and Prince Philip movements.  They arose out of the same actual event..us navy supply dumps.  John Frum was said to be an american god - a conglomerate of people molded into a singular divinity.  However, taking that as a base of belief, the Prince Philip movement fixated on the Duke of Edinburgh as a divine being, and this was strengthened by the colonial apparatus.....and the fact that they believed that Prince Philip was "John Frum"..the american god's.. brother.

Parse that shit, lol, the next time someone wonders whether a divine icon was based on a real person, or that the overall context of the religious narrative has some kernel of history to it. That's what it looks like...when it does.

Ortho, you're obviously and painfully biased.  There's a "story" to support everything. If you want to find stories about how real Jesus is and how fake everyone else is - you will.  As will all those pagans you're so opposed to.

Let me explain to you what the terms 'work of fiction' and 'propaganda' mean.
Oh never mind. You're not going to listen anyway. Have a good life. Try not to kill any non-believers.

I don't kill, and I am biased, but aren't we all?

Well then, you haven't been properly motivated! Wink

Welcome back. What do you think about Tom Cargo, John Frum, and Prince Philip?

Well you included my quote but I didn't call you a coward.  I just didn't expect to see you again because that happens a lot here with posts that look a lot like yours.  But welcome back, always glad to be proven wrong on a thing like that.
