No. Let's not be obtuse on purpose. He "punishes us" (if you wanna call it that) for using our free will to do bad things instead of good things. We have the choice to go either way.

But you knew that. So I'm not sure what your complaint is...

I mean, would you rather us not have free will at all? Or have free will with 0 negative consequences of using the free will to do bad things?

Or maybe you are just looking for things to bitch about no matter what it was like.

There are a lot of things he considers bad that, empirically, are not bad. That's where the problem comes in. I would rather be treated as an equal than a slave. Modern secular societies are doing much better than theocratic dictatorships for good reason.

As an aside, I do want to thank the Christians who have attempted to answer my question. I'm happy that the thread has gone ~10 pages (default post viewing settings) and has stayed mostly on-topic.

Given enough time and enough atheists, every issue ends up at free will.  Rolleyes

At least atheists don't use it as an excuse to explain how an omnipotent being fucked things up so badly.

Atheists  use it to derail any thread on religion that they're not doing well in...as in this one. I don't see that that's any better.

With friends like that, you certainly won't need any enemies.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The OP wanted to discuss the "why" behind the "Jesus is Lord" psychology. The Romans engaged in the exact same behavior, as have numerous cultures. Such meets people's needs, individual as well as collective, which the politicians exploit to their own advantage.

1. Simply defining your dictator as benevolent does not make him so . Every follower of ever tyrant has their leader so.

2. A dictators declaration of "What is bad" is just that .

3. Show me one good dictatorship.

4. A society built on consensus Trumps any tyrant .

5. Following and Submission no matter being debunks that being goodness.

6.  No the point of parenting is to breed a strong independent person .

Nope it's something we point out because your religion sucks at accounting for . And you brought up freewill not us . And it's not a derailment if it's directly related to the subject .
Seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy -- myself.

If you confidently believed that something was really good and pure and would bring the ultimate fulfillment, wouldn't you want to follow it?

I will not allow myself ever to go without doubt. It is my nature.

For any verse like that, I'm sure I can find a contrary verse.

(114) Simon Peter said to him, "Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of life."
Jesus said, "I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven."
