That seems like a more reasonable approach than having them anyway and expecting the rest of society to pay for them.

The bastards!

The mom did get to 70. Her son died in his fifties.

It sucks...

The time to have that discussion is whenever society stops paying for you.  Honestly, this is why we can never expect "reasonable" healthcare reform, or even a reasonable discussion on healthcare reform, from the right wing. Only a new cruelty.

I’m sorry; did Joods say that “the rest of society” is paying for her kids?  No.  She said they bust their asses to provide for their children.

Only well-off people deserve to have families I guess.

His wasn't one of them, anyway...nor will he ever be able to return the amount of investment that was expended upon him.  I'm sure he thinks he pulled himself up by his bootstraps, ofc. It's an all too common example of selective accounting. IMO, if we were legitimately considering pulling the rug of society out from under people..the people who advocate for pulling the rug would be the first to go, not the poor. Those guys don't believe in the social contract..so..fine, let em go their own way.

Money is fungible. When she argues for publicly supported health care and ties that to child support payments, yes, she effectively is saying that the public should pay for her kids.

Or, she introduced a red herring as an emotional ploy.

Take your pick.

What's wrong with chipping in to invest in the well-being of all citizens, including yourself and your loved ones, but especially those who can't at all afford to pay for medical procedures necessary for their survival and/or well-being? A lot of people can't afford to due to life circumstances beyond their control. Isn't it the Christian thing to do anyway, to care about their well-being and do what is needed to help them out? Or is it unChristian to be the Samaritan these days?

The public payed for you and that turned out to be a shit deal, so I'm not sure what the problem is.  More than that, assuming the absolute worst..what's the alternative?  Children's work camps?  Beggars prisons?  Emaciated corpses shambling through the streets?

This is how human society has always worked. We hang together, or we all hang separately. There is no future for us as isolated individuals, and there never has been. It seems more than moot point anyway, I can't take seriously any complaints about our country taking care of other peoples children until we..you know..actually take care of other peoples children.

Considering that people can be humanitarians without resorting to a silly religious belief, I have noticed that most Christians tend to think they can only do good because it is something their religion requires, as though without the religion informing them to be good they would unreasonably be bad.

I long ago stopped trying to reason with him.

Actually no you didn't. At no point did you show the stats were out of date .Or that the trend in them has reversed .
