I know that much (just enough to pass exams, if you will), but wouldn't universal health care or single-payer health care be non-Capitalist by definition?
No, it won’t. Capitalism is simply about private ownership and operation of capital assets. That’s it.
If the compliant is that mandatory contribution to healthcare might somewhat limit the freedom of capital asset owner to operate in whatever way that maximizes their profit, then so is any law against Child labor or negligent homocide. The need to circumscribe capital asset owner’s freedom to maximize his private profit in order to increase overall social good has become a part of established practice of capitalism, as oppose to the definition of capitalism, and is shown to be necessary to enable capitalism to survive and not crash and burn amidst cumulative discontent and violent social revolution of its own making similar to the French and Russian revolutions.

Yes, private ownership, not government. This is where I'm getting hung up. I must be missing something obvious.
Edit: Derp. Yeah, it's ostensibly private isn't it? In practice, not so much.

1. The pay gap argument from feminism never says woman always make less for the same work just as overwhelming majority of the time it does. I thought Beta was the one always going on about how exceptions don't make a rule( of course only by ignoring nuisance)
2. He's proven he does not know the difference communism ans socialism
3. To wooters shit . Most feminists don't think anyone should work in mines . It's a shitty job that robots should be doing at this point .
In many socialist theories private enterprise is permissible so long as measures are in place to evade exploitation of workers .

Honestly... No. Not even Democratic socialism. Any sort of socialism requires a planned economy. It's "social democracy". Fuck Sanders for introducing the term "Democratic socialism" into the American public discourse.
Um, the Democratic Socialists of America has been around since 1982, MLK used the term “democratic socialism” to describe his ideology in 1966 (privately, but still). And it was far more common in America around a century ago.

In short, a study found that male Uber drivers earn about 7% more per hour than females.
The Uber algorithm doesn't even know the gender of drivers, so that's not a cause.
The researchers looked at selection by riders and found no discrimination against women there either.
The main explanations were:
1. Men drive a little faster and so complete more rides per hour.
2. Men stick with Uber longer than women, and so gain experience and better know profitable practices, like when and where to drive.
Since discrimination has been ruled out, is the difference in outcomes a problem?
Should Uber volunteer - or be forced - to bump women's pay 7% so that outcomes are the same?
That's an interesting question but Uber is not actually their employer. Uber provides a platform but drivers are independent contractors. Emphasis on independent.
While I'm all for equal pay for equal work, it seems like female drivers can simply use the methods you list to hike up their pay to equal or surpass that of male drivers.

In practice..literally, it is private. The governments interaction in single payer systems is that of a collective bargainer. This is exactly how private insurance works..single payer just increases the size of the pool. The practitioners are still free..of their own accord..to practice medicine..or not..for profit.
The only way that a single payer system would be non-capitalist.. by definition or by effect, is if private practitioners were not used, or it was illegal to practice medicine outside of the umbrella of a non-profit government employment contract. Our government (and every government) already negotiates and contracts a metric shitload of things....that doesn't make any of those things "non-capitalist" in either sense.

There's a really good exposition on this (and really quite interesting) on a recent episode of Freakonomics. Well worth the listen.

The lcd -is- educated. It;s sort of amusing that we imagine that education would be a cure..as if, were people smarter... they would not be fooled so easily. In reality, intelligence is -required- for someone to fuck with you. You can't spoof a plant, you can't lie to a rock.

Yeah, he really fucked up on that one.
Just read Rev's reply. Still, it would've been more preferable to use "social democracy" instead. Especially in America.
