It's my understanding that in Israel, only enlisted soldiers are carrying guns. I've been there several times, and there is definitely a military presence throughout the country. As far as schools, teachers would not be packing heat, but there would be armed security, and yes, on outings, school classes have armed security with them. As a foreigner traveling there, tours have armed security on buses, but just walking around there is no assigned armed security. Someone armed stays with the bus the whole time since these are easy targets. Security is good and you feel safe. I feel safe at least! They don't have CHL/CCL laws, I don't think, so the average citizen, though they probably served in the military unless they were ultraorthodox, can't carry after they are a civilian. I have heard that they don't have many school shootings though, not sure exactly why.
There are two school shootings listed on this site in Israel

Nice strawman . Oh and from people who are fine to let kids die poverty or without proper health care that's fucking rich

Reality is there are guns and anyone that wants one bad enough can get one. So yes, education, but yes, also protection. It's not an either/or. They're addressing two different, but related issues. When can show me 49 people killed by one man weilding a sword a knife or a pitchfork or their bare fists i'll take this argument seriously.

Their is a reason this is the weapon of choice for mass murders . Of course, I made no argument about the number of people able to be killed with a semi-auto vs a knife vs a rock. But the usual way to repel a superior weapon is with an equal or superior weapon. Again, it's good to get rid of guns, but that's not a reality in our world, any more than getting rid of people. So it's a hard problem, you can educate, but education takes a long time, a whole generation to be exact, to change a way of thinking, and what are we going to do to protect the kids in the meantime?

Quote:The Mercaz HaRav massacre, also called the Mercaz HaRav shooting, was a mass shooting attack that occurred on 6 March 2008, in which a lone Palestinian gunman shot multiple students at the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva, a religious school in Jerusalem, Israel, after which the gunman himself was shot dead. Eight students and the perpetrator were killed. Eleven more were wounded, five of them placed in serious to critical condition.[4][5][6]

#1. Are we going to get paid more for this? My guess is no. They didn't pay us more when they required we become CPR certified (at least that made sense)
#2. What happens when a teacher decides to go ballistic on their students, and shoots up a school? Do you then give guns to the kids? Eventually everyone has a gun. That's the goal isn't it?
#3. The NYPD has roughly 40% firing accuracy. What do you really think our accuracy is going to be?
#4. What happens when I shoot the school shooter, then--another teacher, mistaking me for the gunman shoots me. Then the SWAT team arrives, and witnessing that teacher having shot me--the swat team mistakes the other teacher for an active shooter, and shoots them. Do my husband and kids get paid $3M in NRA money to hopefully make it all go away? Or does that money just go directly to Marco Rubio?
#5. I'm 5'4, and weigh roughly 110 lbs, how hard would it be for a student to overpower me and get my gun? Excellent points.

#1. There's already a school resource officer in many schools. There was one in Columbine, and there was one in Parkland. So clearly 'one or two' isn't enough. There's a good reason when there's a mass shooting they don't send in officers in street clothes. They send in the SWAT team.
#2. Where's the room in the budget? How may teachers are going to have to be cut to afford more security guards? I have to buy $200+ of supplies every year because my supply budget is critically low. Some school DISTRICTS in Oklahoma are so bad off that they are only open 4 days a week to save money. Not schools, but school DISTRICTS. The computers at our school are terribly outdated.
#3. Armed Security Guards are used as a way to redirect the argument from gun control.
#4. We don't want to make schools feel like prisons. That creates a bad learning environment. When those security guards aren't stopping mass shootings (if they ever do), they'll likely be dealing with student discipline. Which is an EXTREMELY bad idea. It helps create the school-to-prison pipeline. And that's the last thing we want.

America is not the world.
You are displaying typical theist binary thinking in saying that it's either weapons or not having weapons. Fact is you can kill and wound more people more quickly with an AR 15 than with a hand gun or a bread knife.

Who said that a single armed school cop will confront the shooter? The one in Florida didn't.
School resource officer at Fla. school resigns, didn't enter building during shooting
"He should have went in," the sheriff' said. "Addressed the killer. Killed the killer."
