What Major Intellectual Issue Most Keeps You From Accepting The Christian Narrative?
#31
RE: What Major Intellectual Issue Most Keeps You From Accepting The Christian Narrative?
As a former catholic, my journey to losing my faith came after I berated someone who believed in phorensic psychics for believing in something without evidence. An epiphany told me I didn't really have any evidence for my beliefs in God. In my subsequent journey to find evidence, I found none. The counterarguments made more and more sense, however.
The sheer lack of evidence has been at my bedrock for turning away from christianity and not going to any other religion, for they all lack the same evidence.

However, the fact that God has need for punishment when he's the all-knowing, all-powerfull creator of the universe is something that I often bring up as a key-point, nowadays.

While we're on about it, explain why god made Canadians? It makes no sense.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

1. The logical incoherence of the concept of a supernatural.

2. The lack of objective evidence sufficient to prove the existence of a deity.

3. The concept of religious faith is, to me, a dereliction of duty.

4. The resurrection: it's much more reasonable that people were deluded than this happened.

5. The human tendency to myth.

6. The absolute failure of all standard 'proofs' for the existence of a deity.

7. The way the Bible was chosen politically.

8. The lack of clear definition for what it means to be a deity.

9. The immorality of the scriptures.

These break down into a couple of groups: those concerning the existence of a deity at all and those specifically directed to Christianity (I can do others for Islam).

Does the OP assume atheists are struggling to accept the "Christian Narrative" but are waiting for that last intellectual stumbling block to be removed? Seems that many Christians are so full of themselves they can not figure out why others do not want to be like them. "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam!" I find a thousand other things more interesting and purpose filled than religious bullshit!

I hope this is the right sub-forum. I'm currently in a Christian apologetics class, and I have been assigned a project. I need to find a non or "ex" Christian and ask them what the most significant intellectual issue they find in the Christian narrative. Would anyone be willing to help me out with this?

You would simply state the most important issue that discredits Christianity as a rational position, whatever it might be, and then I will prepare a Christian response to whatever objection you raise and send it to you. You would then read it and send me back a short paragraph or so (or more) detailing your response to whatever I've written. If you are willing to do this, then either post your issue below or pm me. It would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Given that I could accept super-nature, the Christian bible is what discredits Christianity for me.  Not all, but including, the compilation of the bible, contradictions in the bible, the need for theology to explain what is posited as inerrant, the need for apologetics, Counsel of Nicea, ect.  The bible is what started my de-conversion.  Also, I would be happy to expand on any of these topics or try to send a proper argument if you would like.
