Cherry picking definitions, now?  My, you are so desperate.

It's either/or, meaning either is correct...

I bolded what was relevant since that is the word disputed, now run along.

You do realize that the part you left unbolded is the actual relevant part of the conflict, right? The part that most of us - if you actually paid attention - say all the time? The part that Stim was referring to when you, yet again, and in the same blindly flailing manner that you always exhibit, tried to create a gotcha?

I see this needs to be spelled out for you as usual...

Here is what Stimbo stated:

He clearly said that atheism is not about DISBELIEVING in gods... with me so far?

Hence

Quote:atheist
A person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods.

Which shows that atheism is can be very much defined a such.

Got it?

You can attempt to argue semantics all you want but there are plenty of atheist on these boards that have stated unequivocally that they believe a god doesn't exist.

whilst it is easy to understand how someone would die or kill for something they strongly believe, how likely it is that someone would die or kill for something in which they do not believe?

And, as my maths teacher used to say, please show your working.

Cheers.

You're right it is highly unlikely for someone to die for something they don't believe in, however since we are talking killing it doesn't take much to see that if one doesn't believe in consequences then one tends to do whatever they wish.

As one member put it.

Nice try but think that through.

Perhaps it's a case of believing that there are no consequences?

Why would one believe there are no consequences?

I'm still not sure whether you're seriously this stupid, or you're playing the long game and only want me to think you're this stupid.

I'll make it real simple, just in case...

You are still confusing atheism - the position of not believing in gods - with atheist. Do you see the problem there?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Oh, so we are attempting to argue semantics... gotcha.

Pray tell what does this have to do with 'disbelief'?

Correct! Now all we have to do is get you to recognise that the only common denominator of atheists is atheism (similarly with theists/theism) - literally everything else is off the table. That's why you can get atheists who do believe in no gods, that JC was real, that the Earth is flat, and so on.

Why would one believe there are no consequences?

Why indeed.

The point being that there is a difference between 'not believing there are consequences' and 'believing there are no consequences'.

If you believe that to be the case, why did you take issue with my statement?

Except that atheism is not the belief that gods don't exist. You know this.

I clearly said 'atheists' not 'atheism'...

You're the one that seems to be conflating the two.

Fair enough. I've said my piece for now.
