Attack Islam, not Christianity.

Attack Islam, not Christianity.
Basically my main concern with religion is that it hurts society as a whole. Now, all religions have a negative impact in one way or another. Even Hinduism with its "nature is sacred" and "karma" concept led to the Cast system that is plaguing India's social structure.

My concern is that i see a lot of attacks on Christianity overall on these forums and in society as a whole. But the worst thing Christianity does today is molest children, which, yes, gives them horrible emotional scarring, but some pull through and no one dies.

Islam kills people. A LOT of people. Women are, in the book itself, worth less than men. And although homosexuality is as criticized as is Christianity, the Catechism of the Catholic Church changed this position to make homosexuality a disease that has to be prayed away, and homosexuals should not be held responsible for their behavior. Islam did not change, and keeps the death punishment very much alive.
Even worse, the descendants of the Prophet hold a divine right to leadership that goes against all of what Democracy is for.

If you look at Africa, the countries where Christianity is the main religion do better socially and economically, treat women and homosexuals better than in countries where Islam is the main religion.

Christianity has been attenuated by centuries of democracy and rationality. Islam has not. If there is one religion that people need to oppose, i'd say it's Islam.

I would agree that religion has the potential to be dangerous, Islam especially, but I don't see how attacking the whole religion will serve a purpose, many Muslims live peacefully in their respective countries. It all depends on the interpretation of their holy scriptures, which unfortunately do include sexist and homophobic content, which many Muslims see as justifying their disgusting attitudes. We don't need to attack Islam, we need to help it.

Don't blame Islam. Blame Theocracy. Giving any religion power is a bad idea.

Christianity might be peaceful as a whole, but I don't think any gay who had been beaten up (or killed) would agree. The 'kitchen fires' in India are at least as bad as anything a muslim family might do to its women.

In Africa, where people are Christian, they still persecute homosexuals and discourage the use of condoms (that would help with population control and the spread of HIV).

We need to get rid of dogma as a whole. I think here we just bitch about Christians more because more of us come in contact with them every day than we do other religions. I rarely run into other Jews, much less a Muslim, in my daily life. Plenty of holy rollers though.

Islam is the Arabic Christianity. There's not a dime's worth of difference.

The strength of the christian fundamentalist movements shows christianity as a basically incorrigibly malignant influence on humanity is far from resigned to its current state of semi-remission. While christianity lasts and continues to attempt to prepare grounds for resurgence through overwhelming numbers in the global south by systematically exploiting the credulity of the masses in underdeveloped parts of Asia, Africa and South America, Islam will actually serve as a very useful barrier and counter weight. Think of christianity as a cancer that is somewhat controlled in the organ in which it first arose, but is chomping at the bits to stage a massive metastasis into virgin tissues in the global south. Think of Islam as a similar cancer which is as malignant in its home organ, but which is not so efficient at metastasis, and whose position helps to block metastasis by christianity.

So attack both Islam and christianity. Attack islam where it attempts to exceed its current geographic and demographic extend of dominant influence. But attack christianity both here at home, and abroad where it attempts to exploit large tracts of population in underdeveloped parts of the world. While attack each cancer, take care to let each continue to serve as a check to the other.

Only when the success of christian prothelytizing has been diminished to levels lower than those of Islam, and christian influence in political, cultural and governmental spheres here at home has been completely marginalized - the threat of christian metastasis has been contained, should efforts to turned to attacking Islam on its home turfs.

Christianity is deserving of those attacks.

Christianity does not molest children, priests do.

What about children who end up killing themselves because of the emotional scarring? Does a destroyed life count for so little that we would turn the other cheek just because some other religion may be worse? Fuck that.

You could use this argument in defense of Christianity if someone had kept track of the people killed because of both religions. As no one has done that, this argument has little weight.

Are you familiar with the Bible?

The laws of specific countries stop Christians from killing homosexuals, not Christianity.

Going against democracy is worse than killing homosexuals?

Quite simply, that is not true. That is not true in the slightest.

People should oppose all violent and ignorant religions. Why nitpick?

Wrong. I know at least 20 differences right from the back of my head.

Islam and Christianity are two different religions and hence they have different beliefs, although, they do have many similarities between each other. Smile

(1) How do you even go about doing this and (2) What good will it do to attack a single religion, anyway?

Christianity provides an environment where repressed men constantly interact with young children...let's say it's a helping factor.

Never have i said that. But between ethnic cleansing between muslims sects killing thousands and some children killing themselves, one is clearly worse than another. Lesser evil.

Quote:Are you familiar with the Bible?

Yes, and i'm also familiar with the Catechism of the Catholic Church which holds more authority than the Bible since it is made by the infallible ecumenical councils. If you read the text, it's actually really not that bad for a religious text, especially towards women.

Quote:The laws of specific countries stop Christians from killing homosexuals, not Christianity.

Do you genuinely think that Christians would kill homosexuals if they could do it without fearing the Law ? That's simply not true.
The Bible is extensive about going against murder, Jesus is a good example of that. Compare that to Mohammed...

Quote:Going against democracy is worse than killing homosexuals?

yeah i...never said that. At all. But i would argue that creating a situation where someone can have authority from God is never good and can have horrible consequences.

Quote:People should oppose all violent and ignorant religions. Why nitpick?

Because for the large majority, Christianity is not VIOLENT. Bigoted, Ignorant, Obsolete ? yes. But not VIOLENT. Remember the Da Vinci Code ? Did people die from the protests ? Was Dan Brown shot in the face ? No. He recieved death threats, yes...but only threats. Christianity is a dog without fangs, barking away. Islam is a giant grizzli bear with bazookas strapped to its back.

1. The same way as for Christianity. Debate. Make them read and learn about their religion.

2. If you remove the dangerous religions (Islam, Christianity), you are left with less violent ones that can benefit society or at least not harm it. Like Buddhism (it is a religion by the way, not only a philosophy).
