If we put "secular" on one side of the scales..and "gasses his own people" on the other...to me..it would seem like the latter would bottom the arms right out. : shrugs :

That's what makes fighting anyone there a shitty choice. Back the police state dictator who uses chemical weapons but is fighting jihadists, or back the jihadists. If there's a way for the international community to stop the use of chemical weapons without backing either one that would be good but I don't know how that happens.

I would agree but in this case, he is better off staying in power rather than creating more people that hate us because well.....
Were not the most loved country and creating another power vacuum not a great idea and he is being supported by Russia and Iran.
That and were kind of forgetting Assad isn't the only one with chemical weapons other groups in that region could have done it.

Peacekeeping is how. That's where you stop -both- sides from screwing with each other by the judicious application of your own body between them.

The despot who has chemical weapons and has been killing his own people is the one...killing his own people..with chemical weapons..supported by a power that actively blocked sanctions and investigations into...gassing his own people. I think that a baseline of reality is probably warranted in this discussion. Neither Iran nor Russia actually want a war. They need the pretext of a war to continue devaluing western influence and credibility. To them..anything that hurts everyone else is a gain for them.
(Iran being a special-ish case..since they have an immediate goal beyond the dissolution of the current world order...they need forward bases to hit isreal)

It's not sick so much as the successful terminus of the preemptive disinformation campaign engaged in by the very people doing the gassing. Or, more accurately, supporting the people doing the gassing insomuch as it furthers their own agenda..until it doesn;t
At which time, expect Assad to find himself friendless....and the power vacuum will happen anyway..the only difference being all the intervening deaths by gassing and the certain knowledge that every interested and capable power is entirely full of shit when they claim to support people subjected to this kind of nonsense. Hat's off, from a cynical standpoint, to boxing the situation in so that most roads lead to ruin of one sort or another. With the only path to unqualified success hinging on the US (just as one example) not entirely fucking up whatever we try to do by means of our vast and bottomless well of intervention incompetence.

Let me clarify i didn't mean to say fake i meant staged. I get people are upset about this but the point being is we can't do anything and should not do anything about it.
