When the comedian takes a prat fall, everyone laughs because they know he meant to fall and he didn't get hurt. If the audience thought otherwise, they'd never be able to laugh at the joke. Similarly most people go into magic shows knowing its all rigged.

Are there some who believe the magician actually has some sort of otherworldly power? Sure. Just like there will always be a few people who will think Bryan Cranston really was a meth kingpin and Eddy Falco really was married to a mob boss that had a shrink. These people are called stupid and they're always going to exist. But we're not really talking about significant portion of the population.
