Technically, it was translators the last few decades that took it out of anything.  They decided that whomever wrote magic book didn;t know wtf they were talking about..so it had to be a whale or a great fish rather than the dragon it always was.  

Because...you know.....that makes that much more sense.

At least those others -can- be taken out of context...and that context was how all three items are righteous and good.

Yup. Read it cover to cover twice. Many more times if one were to collect all of the incidental verses read. 

As a guide to life it is flat out barbaric. As literature, it is dull, As history, it is flat out wrong.
