Is this a site for atheists or a site about atheism? I always thought the later although I can somewhat understand atheists thinking the former.
I am not sure, but either way, I am grateful we are given the opportunity to do that here.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I'm just saying it seems like some atheists resent our participation because they think the site belongs to them. I'm kind of tired of making excuses for their tribalism. The fact is that AF belongs to Tiberius and he has made it clear, repeatedly, that the forums are open to all participants on an equal footing. So it seems appropriate for a generic theist to expect the same level of respect as a generic atheist.

Judging by my thread, it is clear that the vast majority of atheists on this site are glad we are here.
And yes, Tib has made this what it is. I am grateful that he did so.

I think what they're resenting right now is not being capable of directing responding to your closed thread.
*shrugs*
That's their problem.

What we should do, is create some sort of 'sister' thread. Maybe call it the "Open discussion of the Christian 'Why we're here' thread" thread. Then we could respond to their posts in that thread. Although, the christians will probably be too scared to leave their 'safe space' to participate in a thread like that.

Right, since one can always tell them how badly they're screwing up here.

As long as we are arguing it means we are still family. When the passion is gone, the arguing stops, and the heart grows cold.

They don’t have one and if (big if) the civil section goes through, I sincerely doubt the staff will let it get that way.

Actually I'm looking forward to making use of that sub-forum myself. Sometimes there is too much clowning when I really want a discussion.
