Well, free speech IS an American right, so my point still stands.
However, you bring up an interesting point; matters of physical violence is where free speech, and especially hate speech (which is protected under free speech), gets blurry. You cannot directly call for violence against someone because it is against the law.
But so long as they're not directly calling for someone to be harmed, I say let the WBC do their thing. I don't think any person with half a brain takes them seriously and many Christians detest the Westboro types.
If anything, letting these people speak their nonsense out in the open just exposes them. If you want to be hated by 90% of Americans, have fun. No skin off my back.

Strangely enough, I don't any issues with 99% of people on the forum. I've had plenty of disagreements with people on here but have managed to remain civil with them. I just read an article about Will Smith being cast as the father of Venus and Serena Williams in a new biopic. Apparently, this has raised the issue of 'colorism' (a term I wasn't aware of until now) - some people are up in arms because Will Smith is less brown than Richard Williams. They are saying the producers should search for a darker-skinned actor for the role.
This strikes me as blatantly racist, as the people objecting to Smith's casting are doing so based ONLY on skin tone, not his talent or name recognition, or the fact that he's still a significant box office draw. Some of these people are actually calling for Smith to be dropped from the film.

This is definitely a thing. The vast majority of my friends are black and I can tell you that they make fun of one another for being too "light-skinned" or too "dark-skinned." Then if I chime in and say, "Well aren't I the most light-skinned out of everyone?" They'll retort that I "don't count" because I'm white. So it's clearly a thing WITHIN the black community and not necessarily to do with the entire spectrum of skin colors. With my buddies it's harmless banter but it does speak to a real problem in the African-American community; dark-skinned black people tend to be discriminated against and light-skinned black people are sometimes seen "not being black enough."
It's pretty shitty and I'm not sure if we see the same thing in Asians, Middle-Easterners or white people. Though, maybe it does happen and I'm just not aware of it. Regardless, Will Smith is an amazing actor and if he played a koala bear it'd probably end up being a good movie, so I don't see the issue.

NR WS rhetoric, and specifically the terminus of the position - the creation of a white ethnostate in the us, is intellectualized and repackaged as somehow being free of hate or violence, and this circles around a comment made earlier by Ego about how..so long as people don't directly make such calls..then it's a free speech issue. I leave it to observers to figure out how..sans violence, all the non-whites (and these guys can get pretty damned narrow with their idea of whiteness) are going to be evicted.
The trouble, also pointed out by Ego, is that white supremacy is heavily stigmatized. We do laugh at open white supremacists, but it's also a fact that white supremacists manage to get primetime interviews on mainstream networks without the network noting that they -are- white supremacists. Hell, Tucker Carlsons White Power Hour is a mainline dosefrom the anchor. So long as NR's can conceptually distance themselves from that stigma they circumvented the main sociological barrier that's kept white supremacy in check all these years. From that manufactured acceptability they can then employ themes and emotional pleas that strongly resonate with their target demographics.
White supremacy is rejected, but we build veritable altars to free speech. As a recruiter, what berbrier calls "the thinking racist", any opportunity to frame the discussion in the intellectual* context of free speech rather than white supremacy is mana from heaven. Or, put another way, if a white supremacist can spend a half an hour discussing free speech and the hypocrisy of the left they need not directly reference their white supremacist views or even voice them to accomplish their organizational goals.
Now, if you can't access jstor, and don't feel like sifting those links or any of the references cited in them...you can do a little experiment in your own time which might be eye opening. There's a silent partner working 24 hours a day towards all of the above. I'm willing to bet that no one reading this has a web history as full of white supremacist shit and searches as I do - but go to youtube, search for free speech videos, and then let it run tabbed out and auto-suggesting. You're going to find that youtubes algorithm will inevitably drive you to NR rhetoric and presentations. This isn't because youtube is a white supremacist, but because sensational content keeps people watching longer. This has the effect of further laundering rhetoric that has already been..well..cleansed ( ).
That's how the dissemination of modern white supremacist rhetoric was monetized.
