And we see theists here, witnessing for the Lord who CLEARLY do NOT BELIEVE.

They KNOW.

Well good for them, but they can't lead anyone to belief in Christ from their knowing. They aren't Saved themselves, it's reserved for BELIEVERS.

Dammit, why can't we get any True Christians® here? It is one of the most frustrating and galling things about Atheist Forums, we've NEVER been challenged by the real thing.

Never.

You just don't notice us any more than the jesusists do.  Wink
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

In what way.......then...does anyone believe?

They have to believe in Yeshua because he's the only current God that promises them eternal life.  The muslims have to believe in him because although he was demoted to just a prophet in their fairy tale he has to return before Allah does the Judgment Day thing.

Political expediency these days seems to rate higher with Christians than promises of eternal life . . . .

I think all that is necessary to be a christian is to believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God and that he died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected 3 days later as testament that he had conquered death. But even that is subjective because Jordan Peterson considers himself a christian and he is agnostic towards the resurrection and I assume his tie to christianity is more in line with the symbolic meaning of Christ's death and resurrection rather than a belief that Jesus literally was raised from the dead.

and what you now ardently desire will one day become the object of abhorrence.

I don't think there's anything. The only person who has to be convinced that a person "is a Christian" is the person themselves. If Christians want to call each other "not true Christians" they can go ahead, but I'll just take each person on their own terms.

Another example comes to mind where someone (I forget who) said they are a Muslim because they identify with the symbolism surrounding the stories. They didn't actually believe the stories were true. To me, that's fine.

Our self descriptions aren;t always accurate - that holds across the board....but I do think that if we're going to intelligibly discuss some specific x then a minimum standard of description in language applies.

We refer to people like that as "culturally christian" or "culturally muslim" to distinguish between that known and observed state of being and the other.  I;m as much of a christian as that muslim is a muslim....and that observation right there is instructive.

A person can call themselves anything they want, but if they want to label themselves christians in a discusion about christianity...they;re going to need to believe in christ. The same goes for whatever irreplaceable character exists in any other magic book.

You make an interesting point.

The point about culture being significant to what one is is not to be ignored.
