What's in the middle east that is important to us? Oil, that's what. Anyone get this? What happens when you drop a nuke on that shit? It probably isn't good.

Middle East oil is really not important to the US anymore.   Fracking technology and declining demand was on track to making the US self sufficient in fossil fuel.

However, it seems that trump, by rolling back Obama’s auto gas efficiency standard and increasing consumption, is working hard to make the US more dependent on oil imports again.

This is what I hate about my species, and I don't mean I hate every individual. I do hate that far too many WORLDWIDE don't understand our evolutionary tendencies. When enough of a mass is restless and feels like it doesn't have the resources it needs, it will make waves when it can, and the leaders take advantage of that and promise them an impossible utopia. Humans have a horrible tendency that when things get rough, we turn to the biggest asshole on the block to "defend" us.

The irony of the fall of Iran back then turned into a theocracy, only to have Trump today prey upon conservative fears here.

I'm really surprised that Iran hasn't broken off relations with the US.

They did, in 1979. That was the last time we had an embassy in Iran or they had one in the US.
