Those Theists

RE: Those Theists
*Walks in, hopes that this doesn't turn into another 250 page thread about nonsense, answers first question*

As atheists, we don't necessarily argue about theism with each other since we lack belief in a god/gods.

We are however, vastly different on other topics such as our tastes in music, arts, food and politics, just to name a few.

Not really, it seems to me that believing in no god is believing “something”.

IMHO, Science exists to prove the existence of a God, and it does. So I don’t see myself fighting science, I see myself fighting scientists that have a little religion of their own.  I mean, does science really prove, for example, the theory of evolution.  I mean, lots of animals adapt to new situations, but that’s not evolution.  Like the birds on the Galápagos Islands, which is what my science teacher used to try to tell me about evolution.  But where is the actual solid evidence for a creature evolving into a completely new creature.  Because if it’s true that everything started as a single organism or cell, and now there are millions of species and different creatures...seriously!? Sounds crazy to me.

And what about “pre-history”...it doesn’t fit.  There is clear evidence of a world wide flood, and many old books speak of a huge flood, not just the Bible.

My point with all that is this: I can’t find any evidence of many theory’s that scientists and atheist put forth to deny the existence of God.

For example:
-evolution
-the Big Bang
-pre history

So that’s one reason I believe in God, The evidence is all around.

It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

And more confusion from Jesus on how the Trinity works:

John 14 (KJV)
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

It's really a stretch acknowledging the co-equal but separate and simultaneously all together Trinity when there clearly is a pecking order.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I'm new here, and, as you can see from my profile I am a theist.
welcome!

Quote:  I believe in One God, that created the entire world himself, with out the use of evolution or a "big bang". However, I am not so fundamentalist that I believe that it took a literal 6 days.  Evidence shows that the earth has been around for more than 6,000 years...and the Bible doesn't explicitly state what a "day" consists of.
what if i could show you how to reconcile a literal 6 day creation with 100 billion year evolution? how both can happen without changing anything WRITTEN in the bible.

Quote:The real point I'm trying to make is this: I am a theist, but I disagree with SO many other theists, in areas such as The Trinity,  When the "rapture" will occur, and how long the earth has really been around.  I can agree with most all theists on the following points:
trinity is a simple concept. The word God is a title and not a name. there is only one God, but is manifest in 3 deities. as in God the Father God the Son God the Holy Spirit. There are examples of all three versions of God in the bible.

Quote:1. That there is a God
God of the bible

Quote:That's it...
I'm not big on religion either. the bible is my compass.

Quote:Here's why: After you differentiate between Theists and Atheists, then you have Polytheistic and Monotheistic, then down(Following Monotheistic path)  to Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc.... The down the Christianity path to Protestant versus Catholic, then within the Protestant branch to Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, etc etc etc. I am even further removed, being an Protestant Unitarian, non-denominational... But I can agree with most protestants that:
welcome to the club

Quote:1. That God Exists, created the world and universe, and is still living, and that god is omnipresent and all-powerful

2. That God(The Father) sent his only Son to earth to die to save me because I sinned, as did every other man on earth

3. That there is a Heaven and a Hell,
so far so good.

Quote:But I disagree in the following areas:

1. I don't see the logic or Biblical evidence behind a Trinity(Which is considered absolutely VITAL to believe in many Christian churches)
we aren't charged with understanding the trinity as apart of the gospel. meaning we are saved or can be saved and not understand the trinity. However spiritual blessings and gifts flow from the trinity or a strong grasp of it.

Quote:2. I don't agree with many fellow Protestants that the "rapture" will occur Before the Great Tribulation, I believe it will occur after, thus I am a "Post-Trib"
who gives a crap. do what you are supposed to be doing and work until the master tells you to quit and all will be well.

Quote:The list go's on.  That's why I consider myself a Non-denominational.  I attend Baptist churches usually, and I don't often tell people that I'm Unitarian or else they'll try and kick me out or worse...
I sometimes attend a baptist church.. My favorite is calvary chapel with James Mcdonald can be found @ oneplace.com He is also none demoninaional. He focuses on the bible and not the pretentious religious bs most of us get so hung up on.

Quote:So here is my question to you atheists:

Were you aware of this much divide between theist people, and is there much division between the atheists...like as in time frames and how old the earth really is(stuff like that)?

I am open to debate on topics such as my belief on how old the earth is and my other beliefs, but can we please try to keep discussion focused on the above question? Later let's tackle my other thoughts.

I appreciate it,
Willie

Hey guys, thanks for your intelligent input and responses. A post I made on CF was just locked...I’ll post a link. It was a bit irritating, but whatever. I tried to pick the right sub forum to post in, but I must have picked the wrong one.

I see that you appear to have been labeled a heretic, at least from CF's point of view.

BTW, there is no way I'm reading those CF posts of yours.

I have an account on that forum. I don't post there any longer because "too many dickwads." Plus (as I see you found out) nonchristians are not permitted to post in most of the subforums. It's an echo chamber. That place is the bottom of the barrel really. It's obviously a money-making enterprise.

I've been to a few really cool Christian forums. QuakerQuaker is by far the most accepting Christian forum I've posted on (plus the members are generally well-educated) but it's a Quaker forum, so that might not be your thing. I just caught word of a Christian forum that explores the (uneasy?) relationship between science and Christian doctrine. I know a couple decent forums. If you are interested, I'll hook you up with some links. Or you could hang with us atheists. We pretty much differ 100% with your beliefs but you can post anywhere you want here.

That was bullshit that guy saying you were not a Christian. It's just them putting social pressure someone who differs from their beliefs. Were they not insecure in their own beliefs, they wouldn't need to use social pressure on people with whom they disagree. That's my assessment of the situation, anyway.
