What is your reason for being an atheist?

RE: What is your reason for being an atheist?
I don't believe in any gods, not zeus, thor, odin, ra, quetzalcoatl, yahweh, or jehovah for the same reason I don't believe in pixies, fairies or goblins.
If a god made the universe, (that is everything that exists) where was he before he did it?
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

Cause that's where the evidence (or more correctly...the lack of evidence) lead me.

God is a non falsifiable concept by definition and so his existence can never be demonstrated
Also I do not believe in anything and especially that for which there is absolutely no evidence

Sometimes theists will claim that the Universe is evidence of God but this is fallacious for two reasons
Firstly because it is a non sequitur and secondly because evidence by definition can never be absolute

I like to believe that I have some sense of agency or autonomy in the grand scheme of things. Numerous verses in the bible describe a system in which sinners are pre-destined to exist and suffer at the hands of God for an eternity. I'd much rather apply value to my own actions and life instead of having my worth defined by a force like God. Also I cannot condone the behaviors and implications of the Judeo-Christian God as a whole.

Depends which gods you're talking about.

Most of them: There's just no evidence of them.
The ones most people believe in (Christianity, Islam, Judaism): They're often logically incoherent or contradictory.

Yup; that says it all. It's the same reason why I don't believe there is a phase-shifted, invisible elephant in my room that I cannot interact with.

Do you get it?

When someone makes a claim that doesn't fit with known reality and makes no claim or justifiable evidence to support that claim, well...Do you believe in the Grinch that stole Christmas?

That's where most of us are at. We don't believe in the god-claims of various cultures because none of them are remotely credible.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

The best reason for being an atheist I've ever seen: REASON

Reason?... There's no reason to be a theist... So one just remains atheist.

I would disagree. Unreasoning is the style of the religious.

Never read Job then. The god of the bible is a git.
