What is your reason for being an atheist?

RE: What is your reason for being an atheist?
I don't believe the christian god exists, and I don't feel like studying other religions either. If there was a god who wanted me to worship them, they'd let me know themselves.

I would disagree. Unreasoning is the style of the religious.

How is that different from what I said? Wink

It's a cumulative case, really, but it starts with a commitment to reason over intuition. However, I'm also an advocate of the theory that our beliefs are ultimately determined by forces such as bias which are fundamentally irrational. So, there's some wiggle room there.

I already have an angry, abusive father and didn't want another.

Personal/anthropomorphic gods are fatuous and morally deficient, and watchmaker gods and "god is everything" gods are irrelevant.

Plus I like to sleep in on Sunday mornings.

"Atheist" is the default position. It is the label used to describe someone who doesn't bother with a god belief as opposed to someone who chose to hold onto a faith. It is the same way (most) people don't bother with a Santa Clause belief. It is a difference between having faith and not having a faith is obvious to most non-believers but, for some reason, seems beyond the grasp of most believers. Somehow believers insist that atheists hold onto a faith that there is no god. Though I've never heard one claim that they hold onto a faith that there is no Odin.

Close examination of religious types leads me to the conclusion that I do not want to be one of them.  They've got nothing but fairy tales because the poor insecure little shits can't go through life without thinking they have a special friend.

I'm an Atheist cause the concept of 'gods' is completely totally fucking insane.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

A total lack of any supporting evidence for any deity or claims from "holy" books. In fact, most available evidence contradicts many of the stories and religious claims.

The contradictory nature of religious texts.

The hypocrisy of many of the religious adherents.
