What is your problem with Atheism?

RE: What is your problem with Atheism?
Secular humanism isn;t a form of atheism, lol.  All secular positions are equally open to believers, should they choose to reach deep down and find their humanity, lol.

secular humanism-
Quote:humanism, with regard in particular to the belief that humanity is capable of morality and self-fulfillment without belief in God.
It seems fairly docile and obvious, now doesn;t it? Human morality and self fulfillment is attainable regardless of ones belief and even in the absence of it. You, for example, could be a secular humanist.

The gods themselves could be secular humanists.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

There is an idea that I came across that religious people (even barely religious people) think Atheists are untrustworthy because they don't believe in some being watching over them that will punish them if they do things that are wrong.

Thing is religious people do terrible things despite this all the time. Sometimes they do them in the name of god.

I guess the only way available to fight this is to remind them of secular authorities.

Many other types of atheists, such as Nietzsche, accept that no such principles are warranted in a godless universe. I consider the later position intellectually honest. Again, it seems like you just want to nit-pick.

-and now, more to the source of your own misapprehension.  Secular humanism isn;t short on warrant(lol) for these things..you simply don;t agree - but at least secular humanism posits these things.  You don;t.   You believe in god dignity, not human dignity.  You believe in some sort of god enforced in-equality, not human equality.  OFC you agree with Nietzche..because deep down you're an incurable nihilist.

These things may be intellectual honest positions for you (being incredibly generous)...but they would not be for me, for atheism in general, or for secular humanism.

(my numbers)

1. Some secular humanists have indeed proposed various approaches to support their professed principles, such as utilitarianism, "veil of ignorance" etc. I have yet to find one that directly supports the professed principles in such a way that they cannot also justify fascist ideas like eugenics. So yes, I disagree which is why I am of the opinion that secular humanism is without warrant.

2. You apparently do not have a fair grasp of what I believe. Perhaps you should find someone who does embrace those ideas so you can argue with them instead.

3. If I agreed with Nietzsche that "God is Dead", which I did at one time, I would be a nihilist, which I accepted. I no longer agree with Nietzsche and am no longer a nihilist.

And how the fuck does it affect you, exactly. Believe whatever ridiculous nonsense you prefer, but quit preaching your parhetic, self-serving bullshit to us.

People can justify just about anything they want to by reference to anything they want.  It;s not as if magic book is short on reasons to slaughter this or that group.

If you have a problem with eugenics..say you have a problem with eugenics.  Theres no point in confusing eugenics or it;s problems (or the problems of the people who attempt top justify eugenics) with secular humanism.

Though, since you decided to bring it up...have you ever considered that you have more in common with them than I? After all..in your godless universe..what;s wrong with eugenics? Meanwhile, in my godless universe..and frankly, regardless of whether or not there is a god..it;s a hard no for any reason.

Quote:2. You apparently do not have a fair grasp of what I believe. Perhaps you should find someone who does embrace those ideas so you can argue with them instead.
Or, and this would be entirely common, you lack the sort of self awareness that might lead you to realize that these beliefs of yours are not demands of theism or atheism, but demands that you place upon both?

Quote:3. If I agreed with Nietzsche that "God is Dead", which I did at one time, I would be a nihilist, which I accepted. I no longer agree with Nietzsche and am no longer a nihilist.
You still agree with nietzche, you;re still a nihilist.  God is cognitive fiat to escape your own profound discomfort with life - and blatantly so  There;s no requirement in theism or atheism that life be meaningless "unless x".  That;s all you.  While you may not believe that god is dead, you posit that if god were dead..nietzsche would be right in every particular. You do this with regularity.

Know thyself. Your problems are not secular humanisms problems. Your problems are not atheisms problems. Your problems are not my problems.

ETA:  Also, secular humanism is not atheism.

You love to cry fallacy when no argument was made. Just seems to show that your only interest is to be argumentative and not pursue truth.

How is pointing out that the conditions for truth have not been met not an indication of concern for truth? Maybe you're just being argumentative.

Anyway, if the shoe fits...

You were answering the question what is your problem with Atheism. You responded that it leads to X, Y, and Z. When I pointed out that this was an appeal to consequences, you made claims about secular humanism to support your original claim. That's making an argument whether you want to admit it or not, you dishonest fuck.

Too bad you can't provide any factual basis for your delusions because, you know, that might make a difference.

But all you can do is point to a book of shitty ancient poetry and then you can't understand why we are not impressed.  What is your fucking problem?
