Really, there's no other way to put it. Donald Trump arrived in Canada for the annual G-7 summit ready to put on a show (and thus, to distract attention from the likelihood that he had no chance of accomplishing anything). For those who wanted some entertainment, they certainly got it. For those who wanted some actual diplomacy, not so much.

The day began with Trump arriving late to the talks, for the second day in a row, and then leaving early so that he could skip out on a discussion of global warming. He knew, of course, that there was no chance that part of the program was going to work out well for him.

This is not to say that Trump was time-constrained, however, because on the way out of town, he found time to hold a lengthy press conference, in his usual rambling style. Actually, it may have been a bit more rambling than usual; at least one reporter present said he was alarmed about the President's mental state, and declared, "He did not look well to me." Note that the reporter was from CNBC, and the linked story is Fox News, so we're not exactly talking about left-wing outlets doing a little projecting here.

Right. Most world leaders are well practiced in the art of insincere deference and goodwill. Ours is the only one at the G-7 who normally glowers when things aren't going his way.

For one thing, in any diplomatic meeting, for one of the equals to be shown sitting when others are standing would never do the image of country of the sitter any favors in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Either of the photos is a massive black eye for the US, all the more so because it will always be associated with the North Korean summit that immediately follows, where trump is shown treating Kim deferentially as an equal, never sitting while kim is standing, with an air of almost being personally intimidated by the little rocket man.

America is suppose to stand for democracy. Treating leaders of other major democracy with respect is fundamental to our image and prestige in the world. To treat the leader of a major non-democracy like China with same ceremony as accorded leaders of our close allies might be excused because of china’s heft and importance to global economy. To treat Russia with the same ceremony is already inexcusable due to its lack of importance economically and overtly hostile attitude. To treat North Korean leader with more apparent deference than the other leaders of the G-7 is in effect the end of America role as hegemon.

Even Canuckistan's PM with the fake eyebrow is smiling in the second picture. Things must've been going along okay until Trudeau waited for Trump to be on the plane and heading for Singapore to shoot off his big mouth. Stupid Shit!

Trump said that his team was the one that released Photo A.  So maybe his intent is to show how everyone is pissed at him so that he can get sympathy from the home idiots.
