Are religious people really afraid of death?
#31
RE: Are religious people really afraid of death?
How can anyone say a religious person is afraid of death? if anything there is more to be afraid of in a religious construct in death than there is in life. If anything it is much more sensical to say atheist Killed off God in their own minds so they would not have to fear judgement. That is why they are so closed minded and unwilling to look at any evidence or have a discussion that does not have a known ending of where their world view is right and everyone else was wrong.

Drich, you realize that there might not be no hell or eternal vacation in heaven? Bring solid/material evidence for the existence of supernatural heaven and hell first.

P.S. It's badass to punish yourself with the help of religion so much, that you can feel the edge of the sanity.

Bring me Material evidence of a gravitational singularity.. If you are familiar with black holes you know this is not a reasonable request, even though we are certain they exist. This request would be like asking for material evidence of colonial America from may 17 1778.

What you are asking for in the framework you are asking is not verifiable by any means you have. You are asking for evidence you yourself can not vet, as you are not able to identify anything from heaven or hell. Meaning even if I presented you s chunk of gold from heaven's mainstreet you could not identify it.

So, that being the case, If you want evidence then all I ask is for you to define the parameters that constitute evidence from Heaven or Hell in your view.

For me I needed to see both for my self. even with a request such as this I can honestly point you in the right direction.

Tell me what you can identify as evidence and ill see what I can do to provide it.

It's that doubled edged sword sort of irony where you think I'm speaking of one thing but can be speaking to another but still applies equally to the first group...

Why? because no matter what we believe we are all people and tend to believe first then plug in evidence to support our beliefs no matter what side of the argument we are on.

EDIT:

The claim is ridiculous. "Some dudes way way back in time saw something supernatural and wrote about it"(They could be lying).

The request of course also is ridiculous - magical item that breaks the laws of physics or something of that sort would be a good start.

Magic. Items from heaven or hell would be a good start. If chunk of gold you mentioned would be "magical" in some way or the other it would prove the existence of things beyond the physical laws of our world.

what a moron.. what in the bible say God has to be magic?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6Er0o5iQ5s

What if you took God and all the attributes of God and labled him scientifically, what would you have?

A transdimensional being. He is not terrestrial/of this earth, he lives in a parallel existence that coincides our time/existence.

Now I know forcing yourself to think outside the little box atheism lives in may seem strange or almost to broad but I ask you keep thinking.

So then if God is basically an alien being is it then so hard to imagine he would have processes or even technology of some sort that if view by man 6000 year ago would infact appear like magic? Would it be so hard to understand that this transdimensional being had processes or technology that would appear like magic to your small mind? now just because you small mind see magic, does it mean it that nature of what you saw can not be explain logically if you had the knowledge to explain it?

Here's a thought that will blow you off you little perch..
What if we in this life live as the people in the matrix live? again God being outside in the real word and this world is the fabricated one? (That is literally what the bible describes.) does that make God magic, because he has a infinitely greater knowledge of this world than you do? What if what you see as magic is God simply writing a couple lines of code to change what is and is not real? does it make God magic?

Kinda stupid for a modern western adult to see god as magic don't you think?

So then with that in mind what non magical "matrix" based items would you consider to be evidence of heaven and Hell, short of being unplugged from the matrix itself?

You ask for the soul stone.. ironically the soul stone as found in the movie will cost you what you love most. as with your peers I don't think you will be able to sacrifice anyone else inplace of yourselves to see the 'soul stone.'

God, heaven and hell is made out of supernatural. Magic is a silly alternative but I meant supernatural.

You offer to believe that people in the bible had supernatural experience and we should trust their testimonies. I don't buy in to that.

RE: Are religious people really afraid of death?
Probably a decade ago I met and became friends with someone I met at a local brewery. Living in a small city with lots of breweries, I would run into him frequently. At some point I learned that he is a radiation oncologist, but he is interesting in many other ways; he is a musician and was even a member of a popular rock band in the 80s. He didn't even go to medical school until he was 39.

I am a former patient of a radiation oncologist, one he has worked with previously. Chatting with him the other day, over a craft IPA and some really good Cuban food from the food truck, we somehow ended up on religion (he's probably agnostic), and he mentioned that part of his job is to deliver bad news to patients that probably won't have a good outcome.

He said, without fail, those that take it the hardest and express the most fear are preachers. especially the fundy ones such as baptist, and penticostals. Guess deep down they know they have been blowing BS up their followers' asses.

RE: Are religious people really afraid of death?
Religious people are afraid of everything. The more you are afraid, the more religious you are.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Before the mods strike down this decaying thread, I agree.

Feral Atheist, it's generally discouraged to reply to old threads which have run their course. It is preferable to start a new thread on the same subject rather than resurrect one that died nearly 8 years ago.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
