Your repeated efforts to pull an OT passage out and then try to derive some principles for today are misguided and shows a real lack of comprehending what you are reading. Look these terms up.

Specifically, you are talking what is meant as a historical account and reading it as though it was some sort of moral instruction. Your methods are way off and your conclusions end up being nothing but nonsense.

Plus, Levi never was a priest.

Ok, Levi was not a priest... sorry about that.
--------------------

I think the story of Dinah was not meant primarily (if at all) as a historical account when it was written down. It was written and was/is used as some sort of moral instruction.

Furthermore, the story of Dinah (just like the whole Genesis) it is as historical as something from Odyssey. Which was based on some historical facts (Ancient Greeks sailed on ships and they encountered some serious dangers such as storms and there were hostile natives). But it doesn't make Odyssey a real historical account. But even if you don't believe that Poseidon causes storms, (we know that Yahweh does that Big Grin ), Odyssey can still be used for moral instruction, i.e. Odysseus could marry Calypso and become immortal, but he returned home to his wife and son.

The Jews understood the Torah to be historical. I'm going with their take on what the writer intended. Your theory is less than obvious and needs a lot more than a weak comparison to another ancient book with vastly different provenance.

Well..the jewish take on that story is a call to ethnic purity....so............you do you, lol.

No we really don't that's just your need to defend your fairy tales from ridicule

The Jews understood a number of things to be true. Christians are rather selective about which of those "truths" matter and which can be jettisoned.

You'd be Jewish if you didn't have very heavy admixture of paganism and if you were not .rather selective about which of those "truths" matter and which can be jettisoned.
I liked the parts where these old yahoodies tolchock each other and then drink their Hebrew vino, and getting onto the bed with their wives' handmaidens.

Paganism? Now your spouting nonsense you know nothing about. Seems you rely on internet atheist echo chamber bullet lists about Christian beliefs to get your facts. You couldn't have chosen a poorer source.

I always get a giggle when some christer gets all het up about the syncretic elements of their faith.  It's almost as if they'd rather their god didn't exist, than be the conglomerate of divinity it's known to be. The consonance between christianity and pagan narrative motiffs was it's greatest strength, early on...and it was used as a recruiting tool well into the middle ages. Now, it's an embarrassment, lol.

Yeah, no shit. It's sort of what happens when a people's holy scripture is co-opted and reinterpreted by others.

Apparently we're going to overlook the fact the the earliest Christians were practicing Jews.

Nothing was reinterpreted, I have the exact same scriptures Jewish people have. The difference is that they still observe Old Testament law and reject Christ as the Messiah.

As it states clearly in the Old Testament:
Jeremiah 31:31-33

Quote:Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
