New Trek show...

Any show that needs to beak credibility to keep its premise past the pilot doesn't deserve this.  Not alone did Voyager commit this wrong, it then ditched that premise five episodes later.

I don't actually know what you are referring to. I just checked on wikipedia and there wasn't a season 8.

Voyager season 1 was specifically set up as continuation in tone and structure of TNG. In reality, if not in name, it was TNG Season 8 with a new cast.

It even went so far as to shrug off the serialisation and continuing story arcs that DS9 had brought into the franchise to return to the string of one off episodes where they met the planet of hats of the week before hitting the reset button that was a hallmark of TNG.

Voyager was probably the only one I really liked, because there was a female captain. I'm feminist like that.

Pity they destroyed her in the pilot, then.

As SFDebris has commented female Star Trek captains either die or go unhinged (or sometimes both). Janeway was in the latter camp.

Her entire seven season run was utterly destroyed by the pilot? You're informing me that her character could not be redeemed after the pilot? Please, go on. Tell me more. I insist.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't they film the pilot with a different actress entirely?

(Also, Picard became completely unhinged, as did Kirk.  All recovered, as did Janeway). I feel the female is being unfairly singled out by Wololo.

Really the only thing I didn't like about her character was the romance with Chakotay, who is possibly my least favorite character in a sci fi TV series, ever.  Somehow, he still didn't ruin the show!

My roommate and I used to call him "Chipotle" ... lol. He was annoyed by the character, too. I always thought he was okay. One of my favorite Voyager scenes is when he punched the dude who wanted to do things "the Maquis way" and said, "That's the Maquis way!"

I never really understood all the hate directed at his character.

PS: Janeway was awesome.

I like Kirk.

It doesn’t matter what attributes any of the other characters throughout the franchise have.

Kirk will either beat them up, or build a hand cannon out of bamboo and random minerals on the ground to knock them down, and be the last one standing.

They filmed about half the pilot with a different actress who then walked out. Kate Mulgrew had a weekend to prepare for the role before they started reshooting.

Considering that I think she did a remarkable job with a pretty poor script.

There has been to much retro shit in the Trekverse over the past decades.

First it was Enterprise, then the Jar Jar Abrams “Trek” reboots, and then Discovery, which I still haven’t seen.

But it has just been announced that they are going to be making a new Trek series, based two decades after the end of TNG and once again starring Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard!

Let’s hope it lives up to it’s potential!

Things keep on going behind pay walls these days. There is so much good telly I miss out on.
Stranger things looks like it was good, but Netflix, same with the last trek show.

The main thing I hated about Voyager was Mulgrew. I wouldn't be inclined to describe what she did as acting. If I could have gotten past that, still, I'd have probably found many of the other characters silly, and no great actors among any of them.
