Sexual abuse in the Catholic church. How widespread is it?
Let's delete this thread, I have the information
I liked the parts where these old yahoodies tolchock each other and then drink their Hebrew vino, and getting onto the bed with their wives' handmaidens.

It's not just the individual instances of abuse that destroy the church's credibility. It's the culture that fosters such repugnant behaviour and then, instead of denouncing the problem and actually solving it, chooses to sweep everything under the rug.

Wtf
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.

Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.

Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.

Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.

Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

In 2013, the Rev. Anthony Musaala in Kampala, Uganda wrote what he called an open letter to members of the local Catholic establishment about "numerous cases" of alleged sex liaisons of priests, including with nuns. He charged that it was "an open secret that many Catholic priests and some bishops, in Uganda and elsewhere, no longer live celibate chastity."
He was sanctioned, even though Ugandan newspapers regularly report cases of priests caught in sex escapades. The topic is even the subject of a popular novel taught in high schools.
In 2012, a priest sued a bishop in western Uganda who had suspended him and ordered him to stop interacting with at least four nuns. The priest, who denied the allegations, lost the suit, and the sisters later withdrew their own suit against the bishop.

The Catholic Church itself has records of priestly child sexual abuse going back 1500 years.

Seems like that was a generous amount of time to fix or minimalize the problem. Since it is endemic currently, I'd assert the church is morally bankrupt and sexually corrupted, irredeemably.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Don’t know a lot of stats on this front, and it’s not likely they’d be accurate if I did know (given the subject matter), but there is one number I know: Six percent of priests are pedophiles.

Anne Rice wrote a novel that included priestly sexual abuse. She does tend to be historically accurate. The book: Cry to Heaven.

Lucanus nailed it.

You’re going to get sexual abuse in many organisations.

The nature of the organisation is shown by the way the handle it. The good ones go to the authorities.

The bad/immoral ones cover it up.

And where on the spectrum would those who actively punish anyone who threatens to talk about a particular case?

The RCC, at least between 1962 and 2001, had a specific procedure for dealing with it and one of the most galling things about it was that, since it was treated as Confession, anyone who spoke about it afterward risked excommunication from the church. Is it strange that I find myself wanting to tell the Church that they fucked up the way one of their own sacraments is supposed to work?

Then again, we all know it’s the scandal that bothers the higher ups more than the act itself.

To me, such an organisation falls into the spectrum of “needs to have its assets frozen, be thoroughly investigated, and dismantled”.
