The problem here, and I don't blame C/L for this, she thinks this shit is real and nothing is going to change her mind, is that with any addiction, be it alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, heroin, gambling or little boy's assholes, the party in question has to want help. There is no sign that the church wants help. What they seem to want is for the problem to go away without having to change their behavior.
People who continue to identify as catholics and worse continue to financially support these criminals have to own up to the fact that they are enabling the church to continue along the same path. You don't impact behavior by sending them a petition. You hit them in the wallet.

...and extended stays at the crossbar hotel, which the RCC should underwrite the cost of.

The Vatican has had Permanent Observer status within the UN since 1964.

And even if you can easily discount the Vatican’s claim to nationhood, it’s surrounded on all sides by Italy, and even then, there’s no guarantee they’d participate in a RICO case against the Pope.
Observer status isn't a recognition of statehood. The ICRC is an observer since 1990 yet nobody's arguing the Red Cross is a country.

Ex-Catholic. Not signing because I refuse to refer to anyone as Father except my Dad. The upper echelon of the RCC should no longer be handling this perverse mess. They should back.down and open their records to.law enforcement. Catholics / ex -Catholics should not have to ask.

And, of course, the larger point I’ve tried to make is that it’s a lost cause to expect that A) the law has a reasonable chance of convincing the Church to change or B) society will fill the gap and convince the Church to reform like the petition suggests the Pope should do.

I don’t think it is a lost cause to marginalize the RCC to the point of being a queer obscure sect on a time horizon of 1-2 centuriesz

You greatly overestimate the desire of society to give that much of a shit about right and wrong on that scale.

I don't know what is more demeaning. Calling a priest "Father". Especially when they are younger than you. Or, calling a preacher "Pastor" as if you were a sheep! Seems to.me both these practices reinforce cultures of submissive behaviors which encourage predatory behaviors. People need to realise we are terratorial apes and unwelcomed penises entering our bodies can be chewed off as a simple warning. That is why we have canine teeth!

Society doesn’t do things out of noble motives, they do things to satisfy the demands of easily manufactured greed, fear, conceit and prejudice.

And you think this makes an end to the RCC’s power any more plausible? So much of its power was built on these things and putting a somewhat humane face on it.
