It really is time for the infrastructure of that evil organisation to be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up again, maybe disbanded altogether, the only problem i see with that is you will get another few thousand splinter groups just as bad.
It's the cover-ups that disgust people the most, the fact that these issues were largely ignored by the hierarchy so as not to bring disrepute the church.

What will it take for American Catholics to go Episcopalian? Don't they know that they can still be Christians without being Catholics? Who keeps paying dues at a club that abuses a portion of their children and covers it up?

They'd be exchanging one pedo church for another.

The Episcopalians also have an extensive record of covering up sexual abuse of children?

Yup, and shuffling priests, and sending out thoughts and prayers. Just a few months back they had a big thoughts and prayers gathering about it. Oddly enough, no one was frogmarched out in handcuffs.
As Min pointed out in another thread on this subject...there really is something going on with these folks who play dressup and pretend to speak for god. It's not just the catholics.

Quote:A HISTORY OF SEXUAL ABUSE BY EPISCOPAL CLERGY
MINNEAPOLIS, MN-An organization calling itself SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) will file a lawsuit against an Episcopal priest who abused a California youngster years ago, and still serves in a parish today. David Clohessy, 46, a national director of SNAP told VIRTUOSITY that he could not name the priest pending the suit, but would release the name shortly. Clohessy did express one serious concern. "I fear that some 400 ex-Roman Catholic priests will surface in other denominations including the Episcopal Church." (Aug. 2, 2003)

Quote:After the service opened with two reflective songs, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry said that “the church has failed her people.” He said that as successors to the apostles, bishops “hold a particular responsibility to acknowledge the past and help the church move forward.” He said the service would be “a sacred container” for stories of abuse that never should have happened. He added, “There is pain in these stories, there is courage in the people who have offered them.” He then called on bishops and the entire church to honor the courage and vulnerability of victims by being committed to the work of repentance and reconciliation.

I'm wondering about Orthodox Christers too . . .

Even the UU gets in on a peice of the action.
Quote:Jim Key, the moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Association, was moved to tears after Emily* (starred names have been changed) told him her story.
In her first year out of college in a new city, Emily, a lifelong UU, sought counseling from a minister for concerns about her sexual orientation. The minister at the church Emily was considering joining, a woman, invited her home one night and sexually assaulted her, Emily said. Over the next three years she became “enmeshed in an abusive, dominating relationship that the minister insisted had to be kept secret from everyone.” When Emily learned the minister had begun another relationship with an even younger woman in her ministerial care, she sought help from a therapist to extricate herself. The minister of the UU church she had previously attended advised Emily to file a formal complaint so this abuser could not keep hurting other women.
As much as the abuse she documented in her 2005 complaint pained her, Emily says she was “absolutely devastated” by what followed. “I was shut out of the process, treated like a bother by UUA staff, silenced and asked to protect the minister, and ultimately not told the findings of the Ministerial Fellowship Committee, the credentialing body for UU ministers,” Emily told trustees and top UUA staff earlier this year. “I remember hearing the words ‘closed door tribunal’ to describe what was happening in the [Roman] Catholic Church, and I remember that resonating.” She has not joined a church since.

Quote:How widespread is the problem? There’s no way to know. But the Rev. Deborah Pope-Lance, whose research and consulting has focused on the impact of clergy misconduct on UU congregations for the past thirty years, believes most congregations have been affected by it. “As many as two-thirds of our congregations have been served in living memory by a minister known to have engaged in sexual misconduct there or elsewhere,” she said. “At first I said that timidly because we can’t imagine our ministers would do that, but now we know they can and have.”

It’s almost like there’s something fundamentally wrong with these religious institutions. Something that should be addressed by the legal systems that have jurisdiction in their areas.
What do I know though? God will handle it I’m sure.

Some ding dong Catholic parishioner on FNC yesterday thinks now is a good time to increase his donations to the Catholic Church.
Wouldn't it make sense to see some actual change before rewarding the creeps ??
